Celebrating Oktoberfest in Stephenville, Texas

Renee Bagley
What is Oktoberfest?

The annual festival is celebrated for two weeks and ends on on the first Sunday of October. The celebration began as a horse race in 1810, and was a celebration for the wedding of the crown prince of Bavaria (King Louis I 1786-1868). The festival was first celebrated in Munich, Germany. The horse race brought attention to the state agricultural fair, and provided the attendees with food and beer.

In the 20Th century Munich breweries celebrated by assembling beer halls and providing live music to the crowd that consisted of up to 5,000 people. The beer consumption is said to have exceeded a million gallons.

This year marks the 200Th anniversary of Oktoberfest.

Local places where you can celebrate in Stephenville, Texas include City Limits' Cabo and The Agave. This is the place to be locally when you want to hear music and also have a nice and friendly environment. Live local music can be heard in the City Limits main building. I recommend going to the Agave where you can sample wine and champagne, or have a beer. Their food is great also, so you can thrive in the environment with great food, friendly service, and great drinks. This is the best place to celebrate in Stephenville, Texas. City Limits now has three businesses in one with the City Limits main stage, The Agave, The Cabo, and Grape and Vine. You can't beat it!
