Neighborhood: City
After the New Year fireworks, the Sydney Festival and Chinese New Years celebrations come yet another event which will see Sydney families roaming the city and its parks for a great day out.

The annual St Patrick's Day will be celebrated in Sydney on the 16 March, 2008. Predominately a family event, the fun will start with the St Patrick's Day parade at the Sydney Town Hall starting at 12pm. Families and their children are welcome to join in the fun and celebrations as fiddle and bagpipe musicians joyously pay their tunes to accompany Irish dancers, dressed in colourful costumes, tapping their feet and spreading the festivities around the city. There will indeed be many smiles to go around.

After the parade, everyone, including the kiddies, is invited to a program full of events in Hyde Park, where the main stage will be graced with performances for everyone. As an alcohol free event, this is the perfect time to bring the kids out for a big family picnic. Music performances from The Dargle River Band and dance performances by the Irish Harp Set Dancers and Sydney Irish Ceili Dancers will sure get the kids on their feet. Damien Leith, winner of Australian Idol who is from Ireland. Damien's appearance will sure to excite many Idol fans in the crowds.

Of course, the day had been planned with the children in mind. A separate area will be set up for the restless children, with Harp workshops and storytelling to entertain the young and the young at heart, and food stalls will be open all throughout the day to satisfy those hunger pains.

This is a day not only to celebrate St Patrick's Day of Ireland, but is also an important event to highlight the multi-cultural society of Sydney. Let the party begin!
