Celebrities: Cynosure of Media

Celebrity is well recognized, renowned and famous personalities who cherish to draw public attention and cynosure of the media. The class of celebrity includes people from different walks of life including movie stars (especially Hollywood), supermodels, athletes, musicians, directors, sports stars, rock stars, politicians and television reporters. What else one could find common among Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Michael Jordan, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Tiger Woods and Britney Spears.

Fame is not mandatory for a person to be celebrity. Some of the celebrities are everlasting like Princess Diana who doesn't wither away with time. While some are associated with the fad or trend who vanish in course of time. In some cases only the people or media who are related to a particular field consider some personalities as celebrities. More than the individual's credentials it's the media glare that determines the celebrity status. Not all people who are famous need to be marked as a celebrity. Richard Branson, Virgin Director only became a celebrity only after he went around the globe in hot air balloon.

Celebrities can cross the regional barriers and command International media glare to become a global celebrity. Again it all depends on the PR skills and marketing strategy adopted by the secretaries of the famous personalities. The latest Big Brother: A reality show aired by the channel 4 churned out celebrities overnight. Now this is a typical case of two regional celebrities shooting to celebrity status for a good and bad reason

The damsel in distress, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty rose to meteoric hype and increase in celebrity status after her racist clashes with housemates Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd. Paris Hilton and Michael Jackson are two dominant celebrities who get the media attention for all the wrong reason. Still they enjoy a enviable position in the global hot celebrity list.

Animals are also strong contenders to get into this A list for their histrionic skills or heroic action. With the airing of Hutch cell phone advertisement the cute little pug that "followed network" in the visual became an overnight star. Rin Tin Tin, the German shepherd was the first animal to mark an entry to the hot celebrity list by starring in Hollywood movie. The other amusing celebrity animals are Marcel the monkey from Friends, Murray from Mad about You, Eddie from Frasier, Morris from 9Lives, Lassie, Toto and Spuds Mackenzie.

Though celebrities have a lot of riches and are loved and adored by people, sometime the media and paparazzi chase them to a larger extent making their life a hell. Celebrities may enjoy a demy god status but still they are ordinary human beings who have every right to lead a normal life. They value privacy and personal time too.
