Celebrities Who Died the Summer of 2009: Michael Jackson, Farrah, Ed McMahon, Even Gidget the Taco Bell Chihuahua!

All in One Summer!

Darlene Michaud
The summer of 2009 has seen it's share of celebrity deaths. One week in particular was especially busy... the 4th week in June filled our TV screens with the losses of Ed McMahon (Johnny Carson's beloved sidekick), Farrah Fawcett (everyone's angel, not just Charlie's), Michael Jackson (do I need to say more?) and Billy Mays (a TV pitchman who you may not think you know, but you do).

The summer started off with the mysterious death of David Carradine on June 3. He was found was found hanging from a rope in his closet in his hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand at age 72. At first everyone was like, "oh, how sad that David Carradine died." Then everyone was like, "what on earth? Who was that man!" And then we really never heard too much more about it. In fact, when I saw him mentioned in the memoriam on the Emmy 2009 Emmy awards I had already forgotten that he died. I guess great actor plus peculiar death equals a quick fade in our memories... at least in my memory.

After David Carradine death came what will be burned in my mind "the week of death 2009." It started off with Ed McMahon on Tuesday, June 23. Then on Wednesday, June 24, we lost our dear and beloved dog Cupcake (and when I say "we" I mean me and my mother, so don't try to figure out who Cupcake was, you didn't know him). Then on Thursday both Farrah Fawcett AND Michael Jackson died. We found out about Farrah first, but it's more likely that Michael died before she did. We just didn't know because Michael's doctor may have over slept that morning and just didn't know that Michael was turning an even white shade of pale... if that's possible.

After we lost all those famous people during death week, Billy Mays died on June 28. I, like many of you, didn't know I knew him. When I found out he was the noisy pitchman with the irritating voice I must admit I was not too sorry that his voice would no longer be waking me up in the middle of the night when I finally fell asleep but forgot to set the sleep timer on my TV. So he may be missed by many. Won't really be missed by me.

The summer deaths continue with the loss of veteran news anchor Walter Cronkite, guitar legend Les Paul, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein (who almost died in a plane crash but didn't, then died anyway), and two of the last three surviving Kennedy clan, Eunice Shriver (Maria's mother and Arnold's MIL) and Edward "Teddy" Kennedy.

Another less known death was that of the Taco Bell Chihuahua, Gidget. I would not even mention her but since I personally lost a dog this summer, I feel she's worth the mention. And Access Hollywood felt Gidget was worth a mention too because she made their list of 2009 summer deaths.

You can see Access Hollywood's complete list of 2009 summer deaths HERE. This list includes deaths that occurred in June through August of 2009. That's why you won't see Patrick Swayze on the list because he died in September. I guess he'll make the fall lineup.
