Celebrities Doing Good Deeds: George Clooney, Sandra Bullock, Christina Aguilera and More

Julia Bodeeb
Lately many stars are in the news for the good deeds they are doing. It is nice to see fame help some stars turn into philanthropists too, rather than focusing on the wild life.

Stand Up to Cancer Telethon

George Clooney, Lance Armstrong, Gwyneth Paltrow, Will Smith, Renee Zellweger, and other celebrities too will participate in the "Stand Up to Cancer" telethon this month to raise funds for cancer research. Notable singers who will perform at the event include Billy Joe Armstrong, Leona Lewis, Queen Latifah, and Stevie Wonder.

It is wonderful to see celebrities participating in the quest of raising funds for cancer research. Best wishes to all to have a very successful telethon.

James Cameron is Planting Trees

James Cameron is working with the Earth Day Network to plant 1 million trees. About half of the trees will be planted in Haiti. This will help the land there gain stability and also help to clean the air.

Each tree planted helps the environment by providing clean air and also providing shelter for animals and birds. James Cameron deserves kudos for taking the time to help the environment.

Sandra Bullock Donates to New HealthCenter at Warren Easton Charter High School

After hurricane Katrina damaged the school, Sandra Bullock donated funds to help rebuild Warren Easton Charter School in New Orleans. And now, five years later, she is still generously helping the school.

Sandra donated funds to help the school open a new health Clinic. She also participated in a ceremony to honor the school's new health clinic.

Sandra Bullock is usually one of the first celebrities to make donations after natural disasters strike. She uses her career success to help people in crisis. That is truly admirable.

Christina Aguilera is Singing for LACMA

Christina Aguilera is going to sing at a fundraiser to help the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The event will be held September 25th. Tickets are available to the public, but they are pricey, from $5,000 to $10,000. For more information about the event go HERE.

Giving to the Needy

Sharon Stone and Pete Wentz were recently spotted helping out those in need, notes the Daily Mail. Stone stopped to give money to several men on the street while she was out shopping in California. And Pete Wentz did the good deed of taking the time to buy a bag of groceries for a homeless man.

It is lovely to see those who have succeeded in careers with very high salaries reaching out to help others. Some who have achieved fame seem to have hearts of gold.

These celebs are doing great work... don't forget Sean Penn's continuing efforts to bring relief to Haiti's earthquake victims.

With the ridiculous salaries these people make, they should give back more than they do. It is nice to see these people doing some goo.

  • Michele Starkey9/14/2010

And they do it by "choice". Good read, Julia.

It is good that the 'famous' give back, that is a good example for all.
