Celebrities with Healthy Weight Loss

Andrea Coventry
With the popularity of shows such as The Biggest Loser, Dance Your Ass Off, and Celebrity Fit Club, people have been paying even more attention the their own weight, as well as celebrity weight loss stories. A few of the biggest success stories followed the time-honored tradition of cutting back on fats with healthy diets, and moving around with more exercise. Other celebrities use fad diets, starvation, or other unhealthy means to drop the pounds, often to simply put the weight back on. Yo-yo dieting is highly unhealthy. Here are celebrities with healthy weight loss, and how they did it.

Jason Alexander

Jason Alexander's thirty-pound weight loss doesn't seem as extreme as some of the others out there. However, he looks good, and did so by following the Jenny Craig diet as one of their spokespersons. Part of his success came from maintaining a blog about his adventures. The former Seinfeld star even considers himself to be sexy now.

Valerie Bertinelli

Valerie Bertinelli was another Jenny Craig spokesperson, who used a healthy diet and exercise to gradually lose fourty pounds. She even ran the Boston Marathon in 2010. She told the Today Show that maintaining the weight loss was the hardest part, because she has traditionally packed the pounds back on within years of losing them. Her key to success is staying on the Jenny Craig diet as a part of her lifestyle changes.

Drew Carey

Drew Carey has always been a big, lovable guy, entertaining us during his Drew Carey Show, through taking over as host on The Price is Right. He used a combination of cardio workouts and a no-carb diet to drop over 80 pounds in 2010. He was inspired to do so when he realized he could no longer keep up with his young son, and was quickly approaching the same fate as his father. Already diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and heart disease, Carey was facing death in his 40s, just like Daddy. Now, he is free of diabetes medication. He jump-started his diet under doctor's care, with a detox diet. He admits to having fallen off the wagon, emotionally eating, but feeling worse for it.

John Goodman

John Goodman played Roseanne's beer-drinking, snack-loving husband on her show Roseanne. He topped out at a whopping 400 pounds. According to an L.A. Times article, Goodman told People magazine that he didn't like what he saw after watching himself play Santa Claus in 2006. His weight loss of over 100 pounds has been coming gradually over the past few years. He quit drinking, has cut out sugar, and works out six times a week. Favorite workouts include the elliptical, recumbent bike, boxing, and strength training with resistance bands. He works closely with a trainer that he hired back in 2005.

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson was a size 16 when she was on American Idol. Through work with Weight Watchers, including a healthy diet and exercise, she is now a svelte size 6. Her original inspiration was needing to lose baby weight after giving birth to her son, in preparation for a movie role. So, she decided to do it the right way, combining diet and exercise.

Kelly Osbourne

Ozzy's daughter finally got rid of all of her baby fat while Dancing with the Stars. She lost about fourty pounds of fat, as well as a lot of the attitude. While most of us at home don't have this option to be on TV, we can be inspired to simply turn on the tunes and dance the night away. Kelly also started eating better. Both choices were a great compliment to her stint in rehab.

Sara Rue

Sara Rue is another Jenny Craig success story. The actress lost fifty pounds following their diet, and running. She even completed her first half-marathon! She made major lifestyle changes, and regular blogging for Jenny Craig kept her accountable to fans for her success.

Moral of the story? Fad diets, starvation, and obsessive workouts are not going to help you successfully lose weight. All of these celebrities made major lifestyle changes, often with the help of a trainer. Sign up for a weight loss program, such as Jenny Craig, or Weight Watchers, to learn about nutrition. Consult with your doctor about appropriate diet and exercise routines. And give yourself time. Healthy weight loss is an average of one to two pounds per week. To maintain the weight loss, make these changes a part of your regular routine. Forgive yourself when you slip. Consider writing a blog or keeping a journal, to at least keep yourself accountable. If they can do it, so can you!
