Celebrities Posing for Playboy

Posing for Playboy can boost the exposure of a celebrity through the roof. Posing for Playboy can resuscitate a dead or dying career overnight. Posing for playboy can also bring international fame for a celebrity who might only have regional or national recognition. The list of celebrities who have posed for Playboy over the years is extensive, and their reason is generally the same; Advertising.

Marilyn Monroe got a tremendous boost from her exposure in Playboy, restarting a virtually stalled career. Latoya Jackson, Belinda Carlisle and Samantha Fox have all posed in Playboy and benefited greatly from the publicity. Others have actually been hurt by posing for Playboy, although it is far more rare. Posing for Playboy for exposure is a common cause cited by female performers, knowing it can make or break a career.

In today's age of modern technology, Playboy is slightly less relevant, as is all print since the advent of the web. Finding photos of beautiful starlets is as easy as a few clicks and a Google. Does posing for Playboy still earn the chart boost that it once did? While it can't be argued that Playboy can still launch a career, it is questionable whether it can still successfully relaunch or resuscitate a career in the modern age. Once, Playboy was king of the newsstands, but now it has fallen in stature and more explicit content, especially video content, has stolen some of the venerable magazine's glory.

In the case of content, many would argue that Playboy has left money on the table by not moving to a more profitable and graphic sexual content, matching what a younger, more demanding audience is in the market for. But retaining the gentlemanly image of the brand is thought to be critical to Playboy's success. After all, it is a magazine for playboys, sophisticated, worldly types who tend to be more reserved in their debauchery, as compared to the average adult website demographic.

While posing for Playboy today, with all the competition in the market, may not be as potent a career move as it once was,it is still an effective way to boost a performer's exposure and increase her audience share. Readers of the magazine tend to share celebrity photos online, which mitigates the intense competition from other adult content sites and increases the market's access to the actress or singer's Playboy photos, which are, after all, just another form of promotional tool. The more often the public sees or hears about the Playboy celebrity, the more her star will rise. While it doesn't always work out this way for the celebrity, the fans are always happy. For them, it's a win/win situation.

I agree with you. Playboy is still Playboy, whatever the numbers say. Because of its status, publicity is assured whenever someone well-known poses. How much longer this might last, I don't known. I assume efforts are continuing to find a niche Playboy can lock down with it's newsstand sales declining. It might be interesting to see if Playboy as we know it outlives it's number one symbol, Hef.
