Celebrities Should Be Role Models

Celebrities are well known, either in their locality, country, or in the case of Hollywood, the whole world. They can be famous because of movies, TV, music, or sports. But whatever their field is, their common denominator is popularity.

They are simply adored, and as such, they have so much influence over their fans. Whatever they endorse-products, services, etc.-are really patronized by their adoring public.

Those who understand or are mature enough to understand the implications, admire celebs who are good role models. We like them because of their character, integrity, and because they can set good examples for our children.

Sadly though, most celebrities (I am not generalizing so just "most"), live wayward lives. Many drop out of school. Although some do home schooling, very few do. Many are proud and reckless, as if living on top of the world makes them immune to disasters, calamities, and disease. Many are immoral. A lot of female celebs got entangled in sex scandals, unwanted pregnancies, and even prostitution. These are the celebs that we are not proud of. These are the kinds that we would rather protect our children from.

But we cannot control the media and our children's exposure. And so the most we can do is guide our children so that they will not emulate the people they are idolizing.

At the same time, we cannot really judge celebrities who live wayward lives. Some of them are misguided. Some of them don't have people to guide them either. Because of their money and popularity, the people that surround them almost always want something from them and are not there to protect them. So they end up getting used.

There is a vicious cycle here. So if we are parents, let us just to try to teach our kids in the way they should go so that no matter the influences that they see on the TV or the movies, they will not likely follow.
