Male movie fans with girlfriends that are a little too into all this celebrity wedding excitement best beware -- May is going to be a big month when it comes to movies about marriage. In "Something Borrowed," Kate Hudson (Darcy) will be playing a beautiful bride-to-be whose cute fiance Colin Egglesfield (Dex) gets into pre-wedding trouble. Things get complicated when her good girl BFF Ginnifer Goodwin (Rachel) breaks character and ends up in bed with the groom-to-be. "The Office" cutie John Krasinski also stars as Ginnifer's long-time pal and confidante. So will there even be a wedding after a series of romantic revelations that rock everyone's world? Rom-com fans will have to wait until May 6 to find out.
In "Jumping the Broom," another movie hitting theaters on May 6 (in limited release), the pretty Paula Patton will be playing a bride-to-be who finally gets lucky in love by snagging a gorgeous groom (Laz Alonso). The pair might seem perfect, but Paula's character is an uptown girl whose family clashes with her true love from the other side of the tracks. Things get crazy as they all meet up for the happy couple's wedding in Martha's Vineyard. Angela Bassett also stars as the mother of the bride while Loretta Devine plays the mother of the groom. Their mama drama might just put an end to the marriage before the couple can say, "I do."
In what could be one of the funniest movies of the month about getting married, Kristen Wiig plays a simple Midwestern girl who is asked to be the maid of honor of her best friend (Maya Rudolph). However, she ends up being pushed around by the snobby, rich bridesmaids that she feels the need to please as they prepare for the wedding. In the trailer, she proceeds to take the group to a restaurant where they get food poisoning; she gets drunk (a lot); and a kid confuses her birth control pills for candy. This wedding movie also stars Ellie Kember from "The Office" (the other cute receptionist), as well as Rose Byrne and Chris O'Dowd. So women who've been waiting for an R-rated comedy aimed at them (especially those that have experienced the horrors of wedding prep) might want to check out "Bridesmaids" on May 13.
For the boys who love laughs and R-rated fun before the wedding, don't despair. The wolf pack is back for "The Hangover Part II." This time Stu (Ed Helms, yet another star from "The Office") is getting married in Thailand. However, Heather Graham isn't the lucky lady this time -- "Sucker Punch" star Jamie Chung will be the one that has to deal with his hideous tribal face tattoo. Before the wedding, Stu is convinced to bring his fiance's brother along with him and his pals to party. However, when the wild night is over, his brother-in-law-to-be is nowhere to be found. And so begins a journey to find out what happened to him. This time around, there is a tattoo artist (Liam Neeson), monkeys, monks, Mike Tyson, and Ken Jeong's kooky character. One of the most anticipated movies of the summer hits theaters on May 26, 2011.
In small screen wedding news, "Grey's Anatomy" fans can look forward to a lesbian wedding when Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Callie (Sara Ramirez) walk down the aisle on May 5. There are also a few real celebrity weddings happening this summer -- pop star Lily Allen is planning on marrying Sam Cooper on June 11, while "Playboy" founder Hugh Hefner will wed his much-younger bride Crystal Harris on June 18 at the Playboy mansion.
So wedding fans definitely shouldn't feel down when the royal ceremony is over -- there will still be plenty for bridal buffs to obsess over this summer after the biggest wedding of the year.
