I am starting to notice more and more celebrities coming out and discussing their battles with the disease.
Christine Applegate also recently disclosed that she was also battling Breast cancer. She ended up getting a double Mastectomy to insure that the Cancer would not come back. Although she knows that she will have a hard time of it, she stated that, "she is no victim."
Perhaps the most apparent celebrity who has battled Breast Cancer was Melissa Etheridge. She openly did interviews and discussed her fight with the disease. She had to have a lumpectomy as well as chemotherapy, and was very public about her discomforts. She often appeared at concerts and on television completely bald. She had no shame or problem with this, and seemed more happy just to be alive.
One thing all these courageous women have in common is the will and fight to get over there illnesses. They all knew what had to be done to be rid of their disease, and stopped at nothing to achieve their goals.
However, I believe their greatest accomplishment comes from being able to share their stories with the public. To actually show people that Cancer is not necessarily a death sentence , but a mere obstacle to overcome while going down the road of life.
I have known many people who were terminally ill with Cancer. Many have died, many are still alive. The people that do the best are simply the ones who are not willing to give in. Who do everything they can to keep themselves happy and healthy, and refuse to succumb to the disease. They move on and leave the bad memory in the past. Where it belongs.
