Celebrities on Twitter - Tweet with the Stars

Those who are Twitter die-hards likely already have a few celebs on their 'Following' list. Those new to the service may not be aware of the fact so many famous faces use the social media service so prolifically.

Sci-fi fans may love being able to follow William Shatner, David Hewlett, Wil Wheaton or Brent Spiner while hardcore politicos may prefer to follow Governor Sarah Palin, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Bush adviser Karl Rove, conservative talk show host Sean Hannity, President Barack Obama (his staff tweets for him), Vice-President Joe Biden or Senator John McCain.

The music world is well represented with names such as 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Anita Cochran, Bjork, Debbie Gibson, Kelly Clarkson, Dave Matthews, Snoop Dog, Gene Simmons and John Mayer.

Athletes may enjoy following the tweets of Lance Armstrong, Shaquille O'Neal and Jerry Rice. Love comedy? Follow the tweets of Robin Williams, Andy Dick, Weird Al Yankovic, Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres or Jamie Kennedy.

Even some heavy hitters in the business and technology world are on Twitter. A few of them are Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, Xbox Live Director of Programming Major Nelson, tech columnist John C. Dvorak and tech commentator Leo Laporte.

How to Find Celebrities on Twitter

Articles and write-ups about celebrities on Twitter not only name the celebs they found on Twitter, but give links to the celeb accounts as well. As one example, TimesOnline wrote up a review of The 50 Most Popular Celebs on Twitter. In it, they ranked the celebs by number of 'followers' at the time of writing the article. Comedian and actor Stephen Fry topped their list with more than 98,000 followers. Celebs were not considered for the list if their 'tweeting' was really done by their staff.

In another write-up, this one found on mashable.com, celebrities were listed in groups such as musicians and actors. All the celebrities that could be located and verified were added to the list titled "25+ Celebrity Twitter Users".

Another way to find celebs on Twitter is to look for Twitter-related websites. There are entire websites devoted to celebs and their tweeting. One example is celebritytweet. This website links to the celebs on Twitter and displays the latest tweets from each on their own celebritytweet page. The culmination of all the latest tweets from the listed celebs is displayed on the main page of the site. In the sidebar of the site is a listing of each of the celebs in the site database for easy 'following'.

Another method, though far less reliable, is to do searches on Twitter using the celebrity's name. There are fakers on Twitter, however, so you may not really be following the person you think you are.

Why Follow a Celebrity on Twitter?

Fans may enjoy getting 'an inside look' at their favorite celebrity while others may enjoy learning more about causes that are important to the celebs. Guest appearances, concerts, books, tours, 'inside information' and romantic link-up hint-dropping all may be found in celebrity tweets.

The tweets from married celeb couple Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore have not only become a fan favorite, but are popular among tweeters for their cute and humorous style.

What may be surprising is that some of the celebs not only 'follow' those who 'follow' them, but interact with at least some of them via tweets. Some of the celebs offer tips, news and contests while others mostly tweet about what is on their mind or going on in their life at the moment.
