The finale began with the completion of the task of having an auction for the two remaining charities. Trace Adkins was in charge of ticket sales and taking care of every whim for the Backstreet Boys. Piers Morgan was in charge of running the actual auction part of the event and keeping the auction-goers happy. This part of the show was just the normal tension that The Apprentice portrays so well when the contestants are trying to complete the task without any glitches.
The absurdity for me started when the contestants were brought into the boardroom. The Donald talked to each teammate about how their project manager handled the task and then it started to get down to tearing apart the other contestant. Time and time again, they talked about Good (Trace) versus Evil (Piers) and America versus Britain. They made a huge deal about how Piers was ruthless and evil when he was completing his tasks, but he made huge amounts of money. They also made Trace out to be a saint to everyone he meets. This part of the show just became ridiculous. They brought out each former contestant to talk about how evil Piers was and how wonderful Trace was. I was bored after about five minutes, but this continued on for another forty-five.
The Donald finally got around to deciding who was going to be the Celebrity Apprentice about fifteen minutes before the show ended. During this time, there was more bashing of Piers Morgan's personality and lifting up Trace Adkins and his quiet demeanor. After all of the distasteful comments about Piers, The Donald finally tells Trace that he is a wonderful guy and that Piers is the new Celebrity Apprentice.
I was completely appalled by this decision. Although Piers raised a lot of money for his charity, this is just teaching everyone who is watching the show that if you want something, all you have to do is step on people to get it. After all the talk about tact, The Donald didn't show any tact at all when making his decision. The show needed better ratings, and he decided that the trash talk and scheming was the best way to get them. The worst part of the show, in my opinion, was at the end, The Donald says: "We'll see you next year, and we'll be around for a long, long time." It was as if he found the best way to hold on to the public and he's not going anywhere. The cockiness that was portrayed throughout this show is the reason that I won't be watching it again. Donald, you're show might be around a "long, long time," but I definitely won't be watching it.
