Celebrity Apprentice, Finally Just Too Offensive

Viral Video or Virus?

I will first say that I have never been a fan of this particular show. I really don't believe that the Apprentice series was designed to bring out the best in people. It seems more geared to bringing out the worst, to humiliate, belittle and demean. The Celebrity Apprentice series has proven itself to be even worse. I know there are many stories and blogs right now with people writing about how upset they are over who did or did not get fired. This is NOT about that at all. It is about something that actually is important, the rights of human beings not to be made fun off for someone else's source of entertainment.

The teams were given the assignment to come up with a viral video for ALL Small and Mighty detergent. The teams then began a discussion on "midgets". As I have noted in other of my writings, the term "midget" is NOT ACCEPTABLE in the dwarf community. Period. Melissa Rivers apparently found out that this term was in the top for searches in viral videos and ran with it. The title, "Jesse James gets washed by midgets", with three Little People dressed in spandex scrubbing him. How lovely.

Please note that the correct term is Little People. Perhaps they could have even been referred to as Small and Mighty people for the video with less offence, if it had been done with some amount of dignity. But it was not and many people have been offended. I have been following postings from only a small portion of the dwarfism community. Offence is not really even the correct word. Outraged is more appropriate. You - Celebrity Apprentice, Donald Trump, NBC and Melissa Rivers, have outraged many people. I have even overheard talk of possible boycotts. Are the makers of ALL Small and Mighty aware of how extremely distasteful this was? How about NBC itself? Are you aware?

Little People have had a long running battle to be accepted for who they are as people. They are not circus sideshow freaks and the term Midget is not acceptable. Burger King has a newer advertisement out that features a Little Person and the actor is shown in a positive light. They got the idea right. Creating something really designed to no more than have a laugh at someone else's expense is not right. Again many people have been offended by this entire production. So to Celebrity Apprentice, NBC, Melissa Rivers and the rest - you may have thought it was funny then, but hear us now and also hear the consumer voices that are speaking. They are not happy.

As for the Little People who appeared in the video, they really did no favors either but it may have been a needed source of income. Hopefully they will have better more positive opportunities in the future.
