No matter what causes the general public's celebrity gossip craze, there is no doubt it is here to stay. This can be seen on any newsstand as rumor-starting tabloids scream from each corner with the day's newest gossip. And with today's crazy Hollywood couples it's no wonder we're all stark raving mad - for celebrity gossip. On an almost-daily basis we have to ask, "What now?"

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes top the long list of couples to talk about this year. From their short courtship and fast pregnancy to their scientology theories for labor, delivery, life and marriage, Tom and Katie have been on gossip reader's lips for much of the last year. They have graced cover after cover of entertainment and tabloid magazines alike, all the while acting out their relationship charades within public view. Publicity stunt or true love? Only time will tell. Let's just hope Suri, the couple's newborn daughter, does not suffer for TomKat's love-struck actions.

Cruise's ex Nicole Kidman has also made entertainment news in the recent weeks as she and country music mega star Keith Urban have agreed to tie the knot. Urban, a country music singer also hailing from Kidman's home country of Australia, reportedly proposed to a giddy Kidman. Nicole Kidman is reported to be overjoyed and in one of the happiest times of her life. Her ten-year marriage to Tom Cruise ended in 2001. Let's hope number two is the luckiest number for Nicole Kidman.

Another couple to steal much of the 2006 spotlight is one of Hollywood's most beautiful couples, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The stars of Mr. & Mrs. Smith got together in 2005 and are expecting their first child this summer. Pitt and Jolie are known activists and spend much of their time in Africa, where they are now waiting for the birth of their first child. The paparazzi obsession with Jolie and Pitt has been rampant in recent days as Pitt's marriage proposal was reportedly turned down by a very pregnant Jolie. One good thing about all this press? The couple's number one concern is almost constantly in the spotlight - their African charity work, which gets as much press as they do these days. I'm sure there is no complaining when it comes to that paparazzi.

Other couples that have made recent headlines are Brittany Spears and Kevin Federline, whose child-rearing antics are almost constantly in the news and who are currently expecting their second child. Likewise, singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony have also graced the rumor mill with speculation on their marriage and impending family.

Though these couples may be top of mind today, who knows what tomorrow will bring. In Hollywood there is always someone ready to shock the public with his or her private lives. Just trying to keep up with it all is enough to make your head spin. But, it's fun and hey - who doesn't love some good gossip?
