Celebrity Dogs and Their Famous Owners

Hollywood Really Has Gone to the Dogs

The life of a celebrity pet is usually a lavish one of luxury and style. They are fed the finest of foods, drink only bottled water, and are spoiled in many ways, from designer dog collars to lavish attire from trendy pet boutiques. Celebrities are really no different from any other dog lover when it comes to craving the love and companionship of a furry canine friend. Their pampered pooches are not always expensive pedigreed animals - many of them are rescued mixed breeds from the pound.

Among the most well known celebrity pets are those that belong to the Osbournes. Their hit MTV television reality show made their pets almost as famous as Ozzy himself. Viewers knew all the pets by name, and tuned in weekly to see what antics the many dogs - and cats - were up to. At the time the show was aired, the Osbourne's pets included, Minnie, a Pomeranian, Lola, an English Bulldog, Martini and Lulu, Chihuahuas, Maggie and Crazy Baby, Japanese Chins, and Pipi, a Pomeranian. Sadly, the Osbourne family lost Lulu to a coyote that invaded their backyard and pounced upon the helpless pup. Ozzy was able to save Pipi from the same coyote. Recently, Minnie was reported to be seriously ill, and Sharon Osbourne flew 5400 miles from the United Kingdom to care for her. It's easy to see that the Osbourne family cares deeply about their animal companions.

Paris Hilton and her Chihuahua Tinkerbell have been pictured in tabloid magazines all over the country. You seldom see Paris without a small dog in her arms. It is believed that Ms. Hilton started the trend of owning small dogs and using them as a fashion accessory.

Jodie Foster has been seen around Los Angeles with her brown and white Boxer named Lucy. As a child, Jodie owned a Yorkshire Terrier which met with a tragic accident that traumatized Jodie for some time afterwards.

Drew Barrymore once rescued two Labrador/Chow mixes that she named Flossie and Vivian from a flea market in Pasadena. Flossie later saved Drew's life by alerting to a fire in her Beverly Hills mansion.

Ellen Degeneres rescued a Border Collie that she named Oakland from an Oakland, California dog pound.

Paula Abdul has a Chihuahua named Tulip. She once tripped over the dog, taking a fall which broke her nose and also her toe. Paula claimed the injuries were caused because she didn't want to hurt her dog by falling on it. Tulip was not hurt.

Martha Stewart is quite the dog lover. In addition to her Chows Chin Chin, Empress Wu, Paw Paw, and Zu Zu, she also owns two French Bulldogs. All of Martha's dogs have been featured in her magazine and television show.

Oprah Winfrey is another dog lover whose Cocker Spaniels, Sophie and Solomon, and three Golden Retrievers, Luke, Layla, and Gracie are a huge part of her life. Oprah considers the dogs to be her children.

These are just a few of the many celebrities that are often in the news for being devoted pet owners. If I were a dog, I think I would like to be a celebrity pet!
