Celebrity Downfalls

What Affect Does it Have on Society?

Do you ever turn on the news and roll your eyes every time they talk about a celebrity that has done something stupid or dangerous that we will hear about no doubt for months to come? Society has let this kind of thing become the top news in every way. I channel surfed the news last night and the top news stories were about 2 different celebrities on the major news organizations.

The coverage that the celebrities downfalls are getting are very disturbing. You have children that unfortunately think that these people are special and are looking up to them. Our children of today do not have any clear celebrity role models except maybe two that come to mind from the Disney Network, Raven and Hannah Montana. A parent can teach and mentor a child to not idolize a celebrity, but let's face it, they will no matter what.

News media coverage of things like a DUI arrest, custody battle's, or drug habits should not be on the news every evening. I have friends that won't let their child watch the news because of this. It is the responsibility of the news media to give good stories that have a real need for reporting, not stories about Britney Spears wore no panties when she was getting in a car.

The media enables the stars from seeking help because the celebrity's see all the free publicity they are getting and keep on with what ever the news is harping on to not loose the moment in the news they currently have. I even heard that before Lindsey Lohan got treatment that she would call and tip the paparazzi off as to where she would be to help her DUI story stay in the news. News coverage of them is adding to their self-destruction.

The celebrities people also are afraid sometimes for the star to get well because of the fear that they will not be news worthy anymore and won't hold all of the attention. The parents of the celebrities are also falling for the trap of the news media and are seen in the news sometimes more than the star is.

Our news coverage needs to be about important stuff not which celebrity is going to jail. Hopefully our society would stop watching the news coverage about celebrities around children and shield them from the crap of lives the celebrities of today.
