Celebrity Fashion Secrets: Hollywood Fashion Tape

Kimberly West
How did celebrity Jennifer Lopez secure her strapless evening gown in place while attending the Academy Awards? How did she manage to wear that endlessly talked-about green gown with the plunging neckline down to her bellybutton without having it fall off and leave her standing naked in front of the microphone? How do some celebrities get that amazing cleavage in a dress so tiny you know there's no way they're wearing a bra beneath that?

The answer is ... tape. Double-sided fashion tape, to be exact. A critical tool in the celebrity stylist's toolbox and a hush-hush celebrity fashion secret.

The team of stylists who put a celebrity together for a red-carpet event, film, or magazine cover shoot use fashion tape to hold spaghetti straps in place, keep loose dresses close to the skin and prevent plunging necklines from showing all. Before double-sided fashion tape was available, surgical or even electrical tape was used. (Imagine wrapping that beneath your breasts!) Some celebrity stylists have put their stars together with toupe tape. Do you remember that scene in Gone with the Wind, where Vivien Leigh shows up at Melanie and Ashley's house sporting some seriously big cleavage in the tight red dress that Rhett forced her to wear? Tape.

Hollywood Fashion Tape is easy-to-use. It's a clear, double-stick, "do everything" apparel and body tape. Unlike the surgical and electric tape used in the past by some celebrity stylists, Hollywood Fashion Tape's specially formulated adhesive is hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin. It also leaves no residue on fabrics, which is very important given the fine fabrics that show up on celebs! This celebrity fashion secret doesn't cover up the skin's natural color and it's a lot more discreet and fabric-friendly than safety pins. Can you imagine walking down the red carpet safety-pinned together?

How does this celebrity fashion secret work? Each box contains 36 pre-cut, 3-inch disposable strips (3" x ½" actual size). Each strip of tape has a removable backing on each side. Simply peel the backing from one side of the tape, press the tape firmly to skin or fabric, remove the other backing, and apply the item to be secured. Peel. Stick. Go!

Hollywood Fashion Tape even carries a special "Red Carpet Assortment." This full celebrity fashion kit includes an assortment of specialty fashion tapes--

· Trapezoid shapes (4 pieces)-to keep the sides of strapless styles in place

· Curves (6 pieces)-for fronts of strapless styles

· Wide strips (6 pieces)-for heavier garments

· Skinny strips (8 pieces)-for shoe and spaghetti straps

· Original strips (6 pieces), the immensely popular Hollywood Fashion Tape size you've come to count on for a multitude of fashion rescues!

Fashion tape can help the celebrity show off their stuff on their terms! Who would have imagined that out there on the red carpet, amidst the flashing camera lights and all of the paparazzi, beneath the glitz and the glamour, one of the celebrities' biggest secrets to keeping it all together is as simple as a little tape?

That's some fashion secret.

to be honest, i've tried this stuff and wasn't that impressed with it. I think it's overrated and overpriced. I have a petite/small build so I know a massive chest was not the problem (haha). Anyways, wig tape works a lot better and is a lot cheaper. (Which is what most celebs use anyways)
