Everyone wants to look their best whether it is at work, at the Mall, a night on the town or meeting friends or family. In order to put your best foot forward, you have to do a little research, not only in fashion mags, but with your funds at hand. Are you willing to sacrifice or rent payment or a doctor's appointment, just to pay for those "CUTE", "GOTTA-HAVE SHOES" or that "DREAM OUTFIT" worn by Lindsay Lohan, Katie Holms, Paris Hilton, or Kate Moss - considered the number one fashion icon of the 21st Century!!!, followed by Sarah Jessica Parker, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Anniston, just to name a few, as Best Dressed of 2006 so far.

Let's get real, these women earn a great deal of money. They can walk in, choose a complete season without looking at the price tags. How many of us "REAL PEOPLE" can do the same? What to do, what to do?

Check out the papers for upcoming sales at the POSH stores in your area, who carry the Top Names in Designs. Ask around for stores that may have name brand designer outfits in stock from the last season at a reduced price. You may set aside a day to visit your neighborhood mall, just to window shop for "THE LOOK" without committing yourself to opening your wallet. Look for items that could be considered designer quality, but have been manufactured for a much less price, lowering the cost to the consumer considerably.

This season, you may want to look first for items such as sunglasses, tops, leggings/tights that set off outfits, without going all out for a "Complete Look". Check out Marc Jacobs, Findi, Kate Moss, Kelly Brook. Remember to consider your shape, size and how you look in certain clothing before making the purchase. Leggings and tights may bring the outfit together, but if the shape of your legs do not fit the style, you may find it not worth the time or money. Your objective is to look great and put together not fighting fashion.

Consider adding the following look to your wardrobe, high waists pencil skirts in various fabrics for Fall and Winter. Add a short or long-sleeved turtleneck with a strand of pearls or simple gold chain. Blouses with ruffles can put a special zing to an otherwise drab skirt or pair of slacks. Plaid is in, especially for coats, jackets or skirts.

Remember earlier, I mentioned not everyone has pocketbook to afford jackets by Elie Tahari, Nanette LePore, shoes by Prada, Manolo Blahnik or BCBG. I dare say many of us can go out a buy a Vera Wang, Eileen Fisher, Nicole Miller or Ralph Lauren without first checking out the loan department of our local bank!

There are several avenues we can take, to have some of these designers in our closet! Yes ladies, you CAN find some of these items if you look hard enough. Depending on the store and designer, you can find these "to die for" items anywhere from 3 to 75% off! A secret of making such a purchase can be as easy as logging onto the computer and keying in the names of top stores, or designers. You will be surprised at the listing of where to locate a prized pair of shoes or that special blouse. Have you ever thought to check out Neiman-Marcus, E-Dress Me of New York, Nordstrom or Bluefly? They carry top designer clothes, but have reasonable sales prices from time-to-time.

Other stores carry quality clothes that have the appearance of higher priced establishments, but sell clothes at a more reasonable price. Where you ask? Believe or not, Orivs, Chadwicks, Lane Bryant, Avenue, Marshall's (if you look hard) and Target. Some areas in the U.S. have outlet centers stuffed with top-end designer clothes that have slight imperfections as well. Not all of the clothes are consider "seconds", just out of season or discontinued by the designer or manufacturer.

So, if you are looking to clean out your closet and have your heart set on a particular style or fashion explosion, review these suggestions, set aside time to investigate your options and choose wisely. Look great, dress for less, but feel like a million when you step out the door.
