Celebrity Moms-to-be Over the Age of Forty

It seems that we are once again in the midst of a Hollywood baby boom, but this time several of the moms-to-be are over the age of forty. As a former "older mom-to-be" myself, I have a soft spot in my heart for other mom's having what is often referred to as a "geriatric pregnancy". A geriatric pregnancy is the common reference made by obstetricians to those moms-to-be who are over the age of thirty-five.

Here is a look at five celebrity moms-to-be who were over forty when they became pregnant.

Kelly Preston - Pregnant at Age 47

Kelly Preston and husband John Travolta announced Kelly's pregnancy with their third child in mid-May. According to reports Kelly was three-months pregnant when the couple announced the pregnancy. This means that Kelly and John will likely be expecting a new addition in the autumn of 2010. Speculation is running rampant as to whether the couple resorted to IVF in order to become pregnant. Pregnancies over the age of45 are not that common, but they are on the rise. The couple's pregnancy follows the recent loss of their son Jett, who died in December 2009.

Celine Dion - 42-Year-old Songstress Pregnant with Twins

According to reports, Celine Dion and Rene Angelil had been trying for several years to expand their family. The couple has one son. Celine Dion announced May 30, 2010 that she is expecting twins. According to her publicist, she was fourteen-weeks pregnant when she made the announcement. The happy couple plans to find out the sex of the babies sometime next month.

Marcia Cross - Desperate Housewives' Star Gave Birth to Twins at Age 44

Desperate Housewives' star, Marcia Cross was forty-four when she gave birth to twin daughters in February 2007. Her twin daughters are named Eden and Savannah. Marcia was on bed rest for a month before she gave birth to the twins, causing for some creativity in shooting several of the episodes of ABC's Desperate Housewives. According to one account, several episodes were shot in her own bedroom. Causing a new wrinkle in the adage, "The show must go on".

Halle Berry may be going through a break-up now, but in 2008 at the age of forty-one, she and partner Gabriel Aubrey welcomed baby girl, Nahla into the world.

Beautiful actress Salma Hayek was forty when she announced her pregnancy. Daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault was born in September 2007.

These celebrity moms all over the age of forty when they became pregnant are not alone, pregnancies in women over the age of forty is steadily on the rise.
