2008 sometimes seemed to be the year of the baby with many luminaries announcing a pregnancy or celebrating the birth of a new baby or babies. In 2008, though, pregnancy news wasn't confined to the ranks of movie and tv stars as two of the biggest baby stories were associated with people who were complete unknowns before their pregnancy news broke. Here are the top ten pregnancy stories of 2008.

1. Angelina Jolie's pregnancy with twins: Angelina Jolie confirmed in May 2008 that in her second pregnancy she was carrying twins. Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon were born July 22, 2008 in a hospital in France. The first pictures of the babies were sold to Hello! and People for $14 million.

2. Thomas Beatie's male pregnancy: Thomas Beatie was recorded in 2008 as having the first male pregnancy on record. Beatie is transgendered and under Oregon law he is recognized as male, but he has retained his female reproductive organs. Due to his wife's infertility problems Beatie chose to become pregnant. His pregnancy incited huge amounts of publicity including an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Beatie gave birth to a healthy birth of a baby girl, Susan Juliette Beatie, on June 29, 2008. Barbra Walters recently announced that Beatie is now pregnant again.

3. Jamie Lynn Spears' teenage pregnancy: Jamie Lynn Spears, the star of Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 and the younger sister of Britney Spears, made waves when the 16 year old star announced her pregnancy in December 2007. The baby's father is Spears' long-time boyfriend and current fiance Casey Aldridge. Spears gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Maddie Briann Aldridge on June 19, 2008.

4. Jennifer Lopez' pregnancy with twins: Jennifer Lopez had confirmed her pregnancy in November 2007, and it was confirmed that she was pregnant with twins on February 5, 2008. Lopez gave birth to the twins on February 22, 2008, and named the babies Emme Marbiel Muniz, and Maximilian "Max" David Muniz.

5. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz' pregnancy: Ashlee Simpson, actress, singer, and younger sister of singer Jessica Simpson, married Pete Wentz on May 17, 2008, and the couple officially announced her pregnancy on May 28, 2008, after much speculation. On November 20, 2008 Simpson-Wentz gave birth to their son Bronx Mowgli Wentz.

6. Halle Berry's pregnancy: Academy-Award winning actress Halle Berry confirmed her pregnancy in September 2007 and gave birth to her baby girl Nahla Ariela Aubry on March 16, 2008. The baby's father is French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry. Berry has announced that she would like to have another baby right away.

7. Bristol Palin's teenage pregnancy: Sarah Palin's meteoric rise to fame hit a speed bump when the conservative Republican nominee for Vice-President announced the pregnancy of her 16 year old daughter Bristol. On September 1, 2008, Palin released a statement that Bristol Palin was 5 months pregnant and would be marrying her boyfriend Levi Johnston. Bristol Palin is expected to give birth in December 2008.

8. Nicole Richie's pregnancy: Nicole Richie had long been known as a party girl along with her best friend Paris Hilton, but seemed to start a calmer life after she announced her pregnancy in July 2007. Richie gave birth to a daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Richie-Madden, on January 11, 2008 accompanied by the baby's father Joel Madden.

9. Nicole Kidman's pregnancy: In January 2008, Nicole Kidman's pregnancy with her husband Keith Urban was confirmed. Kidman had previously confirmed an ectopic pregnancy and a miscarriage during her marriage to Tom Cruise. Kidman's baby girl Sunday Rose Kidman Urban was born July 7, 2008.

10. Jennifer Garner's pregnancy: After months of speculation, Jennifer Garner's pregnancy was confirmed in July 2008. Garner is pregnant with her second child with her husband Ben Affleck. The baby is expected in December 2008.

2008 was a year in which pregnancy seemed rampant among celebrities. Other stars who announced their pregnancy or had a new baby in 2008 included Matt Damon, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Alba, Lisa Marie Presley, Tiger Woods, Matthew McConaughey, and Gwen Stefani.
