Celebrity Rehab Hall of Fame

Why It's so Popular and Who Has Done Time

Everyone loves a reformed hot mess and celebrities know this. Rehab is no longer serves only as detoxification, but as a PR stunt. It's become so popular, that there are shows like "Celebrity Rehab" that allow us to watch washed up B-listers going through it. Whether out of true need or out of a desire to revive their careers, anybody who's anybody in Hollywood has been to rehab to clean up their act.

The most famous of all rehabbed stars is definitely Lindsay Lohan, who is more famous for being in rehab than anything else at this point. Over time, it's easy to forget about that adorable young girl in "The Parent Trap." And though her career looked promising after "Mean Girls," it really went downhill from there. First, she went to the Wonderland Center in Hollywood in January of 2007. Later that year, she went to Promises Treatment Center after getting a DUI. That didn't stick and two weeks later she got another DUI, which sent her into the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah. She is still taking court ordered alcohol classes, and as of this month, a judge has given her a passing grade on her progress.

Nicole Richie is another well known rehabber from the Hollywood party circuit. The daughter of Lionel Richie and reality TV star went to the Sierra Tucson drug rehab center early 2003 after she was arrested for suspicion of possessing heroin. She went to rehab again in 2007 right before her case went to trial for prescription pill addiction and weight problems. But since then, the star has been healthy and in love since becoming a mother. She has had two children with Joel Madden and the two are engaged to be married.

Also in 2007, completing the wild child triumvirate, pop star Britney Spears entered Promises rehab center in Malibu after the infamous head shaving incident. She stayed there for one month. After her father established conservatorship over her estate, she released "Circus" and went on tour. She is currently recording new music and her next album is expected to drop this year.

Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers also checked into rehab for alcoholism. The actor, who is famous for his role as King Henry VIII on "The Tudors," entered an alcohol treatment center for a little under a month. The fourth and final season of "The Tudors" is set to premiere in April.

Just last year, Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler announced he would be going to rehab for an addiction to prescription painkillers. He has completed the first 30 days of intensive sobriety treatment and is currently doing a 90 day residential day treatment.

Most recently, Charlie Sheen's wife, Brooke Mueller, recently checked into rehab for substance abuse at The Canyon rehab facility. This after claims that he threatened to kill her with a knife last Christmas Day. Her substance abuse calls into question the validity of this claim and she is currently undergoing treatment for her problem.

Not all celebrities go to rehab for substance abuse. Even more outrageous are the celebrity sex addicts, though in the good old days, they were just referred to as cheaters.

Tiger Woods, who for a long time was the poster boy for all things golf and wholesome, fell from grace when details emerged of his many affairs. Tiger finally broke his silence and issued a press conference in which he announced that he was in sex rehab since December until early this month at the Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services. He has stated that he will continue his therapy and thus far there is no news about the future of his career.

David Duchovny went the same route after he cheated on his wife, Tea Leoni in August 2008. The actor, who has been around Hollywood since "The X Files" became a hit, went to rehab for a sex addiction. The treatment seems to have worked because he and his wife are still together. He currently stars as Hank Moody on the Showtime series, "Californication."

The celebrity rehab trend does not look like it's slowing down. There must be something in the water out in California, and that something is an excess of sex, drugs and alcohol.
