Celebrity Sex Tapes and Nude Photos

When nude photos of Vanessa Hudgens surfaced recently, her career as a teen sweetheart could have ended abruptly if not for the support of the Disney Corporation, but Disney backed her 100%. But even if Disney decided to hide from the controversy surrounding the nude photos, ban Hudgens from appearing in promotions for the newly released High School Musical 2, and prevent her from resurrecting her role as Gabriella in the third installment of the High School Musical series of films, Hudgens' career still likely would have recovered as she entered young adulthood and sought out roles more suitable to her age.

We've seen it before; a Hollywood nobody suddenly becomes an overnight sensation when a sex tape or nude photos are uploaded onto the internet by a vindictive ex or a jealous so-called friend. Paris Hilton was largely unknown until her sex tape was placed on the internet by her ex-boyfriend, Rick Soloman. Rumors circulated that the release of the tape was done on purpose to pave the way to stardom for Hilton. Paris and her family have denied the rumor.

Ironically, Rick Soloman recently married Pamela Anderson, another notorious sex tape star, from her days with rock-n-roller husband Tommy Lee. Anderson and Lee's sex tape was one of the first that was widely distributed on the internet. After fighting and losing in court, the couple gave in and allowed their tape to be legally distributed. This ensured that they would reap some of the profits from the tape and would take away from the underground distribution via the internet.

Though Anderson and Lee's sex tape is commonly referred to as the first celebrity sex tape, Rob Lowe stirred up quite a controversy in 1988 when a sex tape surfaced that he made with two girls he picked up in a bar, one of them was only sixteen years old. Lowe was able to prove that he was unaware of the girl's true age because he met her in a bar that she was able to enter by lying about her age. Though the portion of the sex tape containing the minor wasn't released, another part was released and sold that contained footage of Lowe participating in sexual acts with another male and a female.

Though sex tapes and nude photos can be an embarrassment to celebrities initially, the after effects can catapult a rising star's career and make them an internet sensation. After all, they say there's no such thing as bad publicity!
