In the past I have written articles about missing children and the Amber Alert system. However, I must say I have never been as upset as I am now over the disappearance of 11-year-old Celina Cass. Cass, who her father describes as being quiet was last scene at her inside her New Hampshire home around 9 p.m. sitting at her computer, by morning she was gone.
For over a week now the search for young Celina Cass has been in vain, which included agents from the F.B.I.
Earlier today a young female was found in the Connecticut River. At this time the body has not been identified. However, this is not the upsetting part.
An 11-year-old girl goes missing and no one issues an Amber Alert out on her. Police say it was because Cass did not fall under the criteria for the Amber Alert since it did not appear she ran away and their was no struggle.
I had always believed that the Amber Alert was there to HELP find missing children. Clearly Celina Cass should have been classified as missing since, obviously, she is missing. Furthermore, it should not matter how the young lady came to disappear - if the police have not realized it yet she is 11-years-old.
It is my opinion that criteria should not of matter. Which brings to question the criteria for an Amber Alert.
1) Law enforcement must confirm there was an abduction
2) The child is at risk of injury or death
3) SUFFICIENT information on the child, captor, or vehicle
4) Child must be 17 or younger
5) Immediate entry of Amber Alert data be entered into the FBI's National Crime Information Center
Note: This information came from the Amberalert.gov
This is, as a mother, where I want to scream. The Amber Alert should not be for abduction only, but for MISSING children. Had the CRITERIA been different, perhaps this little girl would have been found by now, instead of she is missing and her parents are worried sick - praying for her safe return.
I, too, hope she finds her way home safely. I also hope that the law and government will take a closer look at the CRITERIA regarding the Amber Alert. Perhaps than, more missing children will have a faster chance of being found. Each state is different, but as parents we should take a stand to ensure that the Amber Alert is issued in all missing children cases!

Post a CommentYes it is. I wish they would change the law on the amber alert. I was already bothered that they were not national, only state wide, but to learn they have rules on when to use them.
I wasn't aware of the criteria, either. Very tragic.
It is... ridiculous. Really makes me want to curse outloud. They really need to change it. I can understand if they are a teenager but younger...
how come a child has to run away or show obvious signs of struggle in order for the amber alert to be issued? are those the only criteria? kids can be taken without a struggle, especially if it's by someone they know!
I'm in total agreement with you - ISSUE THE DARN AMBER ALERT all the time when a child goes missing! cheers
such a tragic case...
i think it is because the father did it and the police already new....and now that they found her, it does not look good for the dad
Hoping she makes it hoping safe too.
