Scott Hallock
This article explains how and why you should file a Police report if you have lost or had your cell phone stolen.

Many cellular phone carriers offer insurance on cell phones and if lost or stolen, will require a Police report.

How to file the Police report

Depending on how and where your cell phone was lost or stolen will depend on the Police jurisdiction you file the report. If you do not know where you lost your cell phone then file a report with your local Police department where you live.

You can call your local Police department where you live and find out what reporting options are available to you.

You may be able to file the report on-line, over the phone or in person by going to the Police station.

What you need to file the report

You will need proper identification to start the report. Provide the Police with how your cell phone was lost or stolen.

You may have to provide the Police with the type of cell phone, a description, the model and the value.

If there is suspect information then provide it to the Police or any further information that you might have that could help apprehend the criminal and find your phone.

Why file a report

You are filing a lost or stolen cell phone report for a few reasons. First, if someone stole your cell phone there is a chance of catching the suspect and bringing him or her to justice.

All phone carriers require a Police report if your phone has been lost or stolen. Obtaining a Police report number is the only way you can take advantage of the insurance you took out on the phone.

Conclusion

Filing a Police report is a very simple process. Once you have filed a report, make sure, that you always get your Police report case number and either a receipt that you filed a report or an actual copy of the report for your records, the Officers name and badge number and the Police department where you filed the report.
