Cell Phones More Deadly Than Cigarettes? Will Higher Taxes, Insurance Premiums and Bans Be in Order?

Cell Phones = Cancer Vs. Cigarettes = Cancer

Cell phones more deadly than Cigarettes? Will higher taxes, insurance premiums and bans be in order?

Dr. Vini Khurana, award winning cancer expert and top neurosurgeon created quite a buzz with his statements about cell phones being 3x more deadly than smoking (cigarettes) or being exposed to asbestos. I am curious if this means that people who use cell phones daily will incur higher taxes? Will they also be charged more for their health and life insurances? How about imposing a ban on the cell phones in public places, like restaurants and bars?

The cell phone/ cigarettes story was met with shock, disbelief and anxiety by the reporting media. Hardly the way cigarettes were reported. The reason? Cigarettes have been demonized. They have been taxed to high heaven and banned because of the fear mongering that went on. Everyone, well, almost everyone (who is anyone) owns and regularly uses cell phones.

Dr. Vini Khurana not only said that cell phones double the risk of brain cancer after 10 years, he went on to say that governments and mobile phone industries should take immediate steps to reduce exposure to radiation. France and Germany at least warned their citizens about this possibility.

Dr. Khurana says there may be broader health ramifications than asbestos or smoking. What? Now just think about that. Again, I foresee a huge higher tax on cell phone use and a higher health and life insurance premium. And maybe people (like me) that don't use cell phones unless its an emergency, would rather not be seated in bars and restaurants where cell phones are in use. Ah, can you say ban?

Of course, the Mobile Operators Association more or less dismissed the study of Khurana's. They referred to it as selective discussion of scientific literature by one individual. Yeah, okay. The study of Khurana's linking cell phone to brain cancer has not yet been published. It will be reviewed by his peers. It is discussed on his website.

What does this mean to a world society that cannot stand the thought of giving up their cell phones? There are 3 Billion cell phone users worldwide. That's 3x more than smoke. IF smoking cigarettes kill 5 million yearly, do the math. As an aside, I wonder how many cancers have been blamed on smoking that were actually cell phone or other gadget related? Will this study finally give credence to those brave few alternative physicians who warned about this years ago?

Until more comes out about this, maybe we could just go back to landline phones. I know, you will have to go 8 hours without talking to spouses or children. But we did manage to make it several thousand years without cell phones. And what price are you willing to pay for the convenience? Are you willing to pay with your life? How about your child's? Young people who have a phone stuck to their ear early in life will probably start showing cancer in their late teens or in their twenties. Remember? It takes 10 years for some of these cancers to affect us.

Are cell phones more deadly than cigarettes? If they are, will it mean higher taxes or higher insurance? How about a ban on cell phone use in public places? This story is only beginning. Dr. Khurana did say there would be broad health ramifications. Time will tell.

Thanks for the great article.....I'm sure it'll make people think twice about their cell phones, and just maybe some will also see the hypocritical way smokers have been treated in this country. I'm not a smoker, but the aspect of gov. DICTATING if and where folks can legally light up and telling businesses they HAVE to go smoke free is really going beyond the rights of the gov..There are plenty of"smokefree"bars and restaurants and in my mind there is no LEGAL reason a bar or restaurant owner shouldn't be able to have a "smoking allowed" place of business..we're able to choose smoking or non smoking..at least we used to have that option. It remains to be seen just how far the "powers that be" will persue the cell phone info.
I'm pretty sure they won't go after the cell phone industry as vigerously as they continue persueing the tobacco corporations...time will tell.

Sorry I sort of got off subject....I just don't like gov. dictating more and more what we can and cannot do....for

I'm with you Charlie. My ear always gets hot on a cell phone or even a cordless phone. Anyone else have that happen?

Clicking on Dr. Vini Khurana in the first paragraph will take you to his website. The report and warning are there. Clicking on cell phone/cigarette story beginning the second paragraph will take you to the real story from the uk.
