Cellulite is a collection of fat, water and waste from our bodies that gets trapped beneath the skin's surface. When these fat cells expand they fill with water, which causes the capillaries to pretty much be strangled. This, in turn, decreases the circulation. This is where the dimpling effect comes in.
To get started, you can use an oil (Cypress Oil is a really good one) with a nice vigorous massage to improve the appearance of the skin. By massaging these parts of the body, the tissues will tighten and reduce the retention of water. Remember, even though water collects here with the fat, you still need to drink plenty of water throughout the day to flush the toxins from the body. These toxins latch onto the fat cells....not very healthy for the body! Now, add a little bit of exercise to the mix and you're off to a good start in defeating this monster. Walking, climbing stairs, skating, bike riding...these are all good types of exercise for working these cellulite prone areas. You can also do some leg lifts, these are something you can do while washing dishes, doing your hair, putting on your make-up, or doing just about anything while you are standing. Slowly lift your leg back and upward, keeping it straight. Hold for about 10 seconds, lower and repeat. Do this ten times for each leg (or whatever you are comfortable with) and work your way up to thirty per leg. You can also do side leg lifts in the same fashion.
The previous exercises are good for cellulite on the thighs, but some of us need to work the stomach area and buttocks too. Good news! You can work both of these areas while doing these leg lifts to take care of everything all at once! While you are doing your lifts, pull your stomach in by tightening the muscles and also tighten the buttocks. Before you know it, the cellulite will have decreased and you will have achieved a little bit of muscle definition.
