Celtic Wedding Rings

Let Your Wedding Rings Show Your Irish or Scottish Heritage

More people than ever are interested in choosing wedding rings that are unique, have personal meaning, or that show their heritage. My wedding band includes a Celtic hands design, holding my three stones (two of which are emeralds). It is possible to purchase wedding and engagement rings and bands with Celtic themes from various Web sites. It is also possible to have them made by artisans and goldsmiths. Either way, having a wedding ring or band with special symbols can be a deep expression of love.

Celtic crosses are quite beautiful. The cross has been used since before Christ, and many Celtic crosses actually have four arms of equal length. Incorporating these into wedding and engagement rings can be a good way to show devotion to God and to each other, while at the same time affirming your Celtic heritage.

One of the most popular rings is the Claddagh ring. This ring is Irish in origin. There are several legends about how the Claddagh ring came to be. One involves a prince who met his love in a town near Galloway, called Claddagh, and who insisted he would return for her hand (he did, hence the crown that tops the heart).

The other story involves a fisherman sold into slavery that learns smithing and creates the ring for his lost love. When he returns, she is unmarried and he gives her the ring on their wedding day. The main point is that the Claddagh ring represents unending love and loyalty. While some rings set a stone in the center of the heart, others cut the stone in the shape of the heart for the hands to hold.

There are also many different types of Celtic knots that can be used on wedding bands and on engagement rings. The heart knot is intricate and beautiful especially. A Scottish trinity knot, however, is a meaningful way to show your heritage and your vows. In the Christian Scottish tradition, a trinity knot represents the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. As a wedding ring or band, this represents the covenant made with God and with each other. It is very meaningful and it is easy to incorporate gemstones as well.

Other lovely Celtic designs include mazes, whorls, and spirals. It is especially easy to put these on bands. Many women choose to have the bands of their rings, leading to the gems at the center, adorned with Celtic designs. All of these designs have different meanings, and they can add special meaning to a special day.
