Center for Public Integrity: 935 False Statements by the Bush Administration

R. Elizabeth C. Kitchen
"But you know, we have looked several times for state sponsorship of al Qaeda and not found any real linkages to Iraq." -- President Bush

If there were no links to Iraq the why are we at war with them? When you read of the war al Qaeda is always mentioned as the organization in which initiated the terrorism attacks or 9/11. If they are not the ones responsible for the terrorism attacks why is Bush gunning for them and publicly demoralizing that organization? He and his administration are always saying that al Qaeda was indeed responsible for 9/11 so why is he sticking his foot in his mouth? In all honesty he needs to get his story straight. All of this was stated just 48 hours after the 9/11 attacks. I would think it would take longer to secure concrete evidence against those responsible. I believe that this statement is false.

President Bush said: "They're both risks, they're both dangerous. The difference, of course, is that Al Qaeda likes to hijack governments. Saddam Hussein is a dictator of a government. Al Qaeda hides, Saddam doesn't, but the danger is, is that they work in concert. The danger is, is that Al Qaeda becomes an extension of Saddam's madness and his hatred and his capacity to extend weapons of mass destruction around the world."

He previously stated that there was no link to al Qaeda and now he is sure of their involvement. He is also stating that they are an extension of Saddam Hussein. In so many reports President Bush assures us that weapons of mass destruction are under control. So why is he so concerned about the issue here? If he knew that they were both risks then why did he previously state that al Qaeda had no ties to Iraq.

"The Iraqi regime possesses biological and chemical weapons, is rebuilding the facilities to make more and, according to the British government, could launch a biological or chemical attack in as little as 45 minutes after the order is given. The regime has long-standing and continuing ties to terrorist groups, and there are al Qaeda terrorists inside Iraq. This regime is seeking a nuclear bomb, and with fissile material could build one within a year."

Just a few weeks prior to this release Tenet stated that there was no NEI of Iraq's weapon's of mass destruction. He further stated that the reason for this estimate not being done was because no one had requested it. Two planes being hijacked by terrorists destroy 2 of America's most prominent buildings and no one thinks to do a weapons estimate in the country deemed responsible. We all know President Bush cannot pronounce "nuclear", but can't he at least try to control nuclear weapons? President Bush states that there are two weapons to date, but is contradicted by a member of his administration who states that information of the such has never been investigated.

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell said: "My colleagues, every statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources. These are not assertions. What we're giving you are facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence. I will cite some examples, and these are from human sources." In preparation for his presentation, Powell had spent a week at Central Intelligence Agency headquarters sifting through intelligence.

He claims to have legitimate sources, but through little investigation those sources proved to be non existent. He also claimed that an al Qaeda detainee was his other source of information. The CIA shortly thereafter determined that this detainee "was not in a position to know if any training had taken place." If you are going to lie at least make it a good one.

I find all of these statements to be falsities mainly because they are all easily contradicted and proved to be false. These men waged a war and assured us American's that it was justified. The only problem is everything they say has no justification what-so-ever.

Wow! All those false statements come down to two points:
    1). Iraq has WMD's, and
2). Iraq had links to Al Qaeda.
Please explain how this differs from the Clinton administration statements.
It was the Clinton administration in 1998 that created a policy of regime change in Iraq.
That was after Saddam kicked the UN inspectors out. The UN still has not accounted for Iraq's WMD's.
I was not surprised this group gets funding from Soros and other leftists.
