Central BBQ

Memphis

This is a review of Central BBQ located at 2249 Central Avenue in Memphis, TN. Their telephone number is 901-272-9377. This is the link to their website (www.cbqmemphis.com/). Central BBQ is located close to Peabody Park, Christian Brothers University, and River City Sound Productions.

Central BBQ is not a fast food restaurant and neither is it a Red Lobster or Outback. It has that hole-in-the-wall feel to it. Most of the signs on the wall are related to either Memphis or BBQ. There is also a jukebox if you are into that. You place your order at a checkout and then they bring your food out to you. Despite not being fast food, they get your food out to you very quickly. If the restaurant is crowded, you may wait in the line to order for around 5-10 minutes. Just hope that it is not freezing outside because there is the possibility you could be waiting outside to order. There is not very much seating on the inside but if you go when it is warm there is additional seating outside and sometimes there is live music.

I have been to Central BBQ about 4 times. Normally, my guest and I order the Slab for Two. It comes with 4 sides and rolls. We normally order two servings of BBQ beans and homecooked potato chips. The homecooked potato chips are amazing. The ribs are absolutely declicious. On this most recent trip, I ordered the pork plate with Texas Toast and homecooked potato chips. The pork plate was incredible but I would still recommend the ribs. For what it is worth, I think Central BBQ has better ribs than Rendezvous. On this most recent visit, my guest ordered the pulled chicken plate with homecooked chips. They stated that the pulled chicken plate was very good.

The total cost of our meal was $19.26. The pork plate was $8.39 plus $0.25 for the Texas Toast. The pulled chicken plate was $8.99. The subtotal was $17.63 plus $1.63 fox tax equals a total of $19.26. Out of all the places I have eaten in Memphis, Central BBQ is probably my favorite to date. I could eat the homecooked chips everyday. If you are in Memphis for a few days, find a way to eat at Central BBQ.
