Central Florida: Wildfires Flares Up Again on Lake County/ Seminole County Line

Amber A.
Dozens of homes are being told to be ready to evacuate in light of a large brush fire that is buring on the Lake County/Seminole County Line. Firefighters are back buring and moving the fire lines in hope of containing the fire until rain comes later this week. 1,670 acres have already been burned right off of State Road 46. The road has been closed and reopened numerous times. State Road 46 is the main road from Mount Dora to Sanford and Interstate 4.

State authorities have asked for citizens to continue to adhere to the water restrictions and also observe the burning bans that have been put into place. Also they have asked for anyone to report any small fires immediately so they do not have the chance to grow into a large raging fire.

Crews are still also working on a fire in Lake County that has been burning for more than a week between Eustis and Deland, Florida. This fire has burned 880 acres and is only 45 percent contained.

Both of these fires are being fueled by the weather system that is sitting off the coast. The sub tropical low is making wind guest from 20-30 miles per hour. Firefighters are trying to get ahead of the fire by making controlled burns to try to reduce the vegetation that will be in the way of the fires.

Luckily during all the fires in the area, no one has been hurt. Fire Fighters from around the state are traveling to the area to help contain the fires in Central Florida.

Smoke is covering all of Lake County as I am typing this, which is about 40 miles north of Orlando Florida. I will be attaching picture to this article to show you what the air condition is where I live in Leesburg, which is between 30 and 40 miles from the fire. The air is so full of smoke that when going outside it is hard to believe.

I hope these pictures shed a little light on what the conditions have been like here in Central Florida for the past few days.

Susan, right now there is no issues in that area, sorry for the delay in responding. I know that area well, as I am from and grew up and went to high school in Umatilla

We are in Ohio but have a 2nd home near Altoona. It is actually in Marion County on Lake County line. It is in the Ocala National Forest Campsite Pinetree, off of 19, and then off of Railraod Grade road. Does anyone know if the fires are in that area.

The smoke is getting over to Dixie County too. I have a farm in Dixie County, a small horse farm. And I took this picture at 3 pm today..

This is very scary since I have no way of getting my horses out should the fires come this way. My farm is bordered on all four sides by forest, pine on two sides and mixed oaks etc. on the other two.

Thanks for the commment! ;D And really, I hope they can do something about this situation! This has to be one of the worst brush fire seasons I've seen yet!
Great job on the article btw!
