Century Industries Expands in Little Rock, Arkansas

On Monday, December 21, 2009, the announcement was made that Century Industries will be able to add an extra 14 employees to it's roster soon. The business had worked only 40 employees until recently. They then added 36 more and will now be able to add an additional 14. They are hoping that soon they will exceed 100 employees.

It's not much of a boost for Arkansas's economy, but it is enough to create some excitement. Arkansas's unemployment rate ranges between 6% and 7%. Since February of 2005, the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Metro Little Rock Alliance, has been able to generate $1.1 billion to help with the expansion of local businesses. Thus creating 10,025 new jobs and adding $359,755,994 in new payroll.

Roger Ball is the owner of Century Industries and has been a member of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce since 2007. His company is playing an important role in providing jobs and boosting the Arkansas economy.

The company makes attic ladders. Lowe's has come into an agreement with Century that they will stock the ladders in their stores. Home Depot will also have them available on line. Another unnamed company out of Texas will be making the ladders available on line as well.

Century is based in North Carolina and Arkansas. They make attic ladders and windows, but the Arkansas company only makes the ladders. The hope is that the business will have a higher demand on the ladders, creating even more jobs in the near future.

Governor Mike Beebe visited the plant on Monday to share in the excitement for the small business. He acknowledged that growing existing small businesses is the key to future economic development.

The company received a grant that will help in the training of new employees.
