Cereal Box Review 3

Ken Currie
Reading is important. I know because I heard a celebrity say so on TV.

But cereal boxes do not all supply the same level of literary delights. So which boxes do you spend more time perusing, which do you ignore? Which are exciting, thought provoking, frustrating, boring or rude? Which are pedantic, disjointed, or filled with biting sarcasm? Let my cereal box reviews guide you.

Toasted Oats

This Western Family cereal box compares favorably to the Cheerios box. They both have a yellow background and they both show a healthy looking red heart on the front, I guess because the soluble fiber makes your heart red. But the Western Family box is not as brightly colored, not as flashy. It seems to want your respect.

Toasted Oats is not a light read. The nutrition facts are straight forward and without cute little graphics. There is a recipe on one side, and it is for a substantial kitchen undertaking. So do not expect to be just shaking toasted oats in a baggie with powdered sugar. And still this box is just getting started. On the back I was blown away to find "Seven Wonders Of North America" 'Marvels of nature in your own back yard'. There is a brief description of Yellowstone, Mammoth Cave, Niagara Falls and four others. Is this a sincere attempt to encourage travel and to educate people on a subject that has nothing to do with selling more cereal? I was awe-struck. The idea is so noble and yet the writing is accessible. If you have children you might consider having them skip school some morning and read this cereal box.
