Cereal Review: Live Active Mixed Berry Crunch Cereal from Post

This Cereal Sounded Good but in the End I was Unhappy with Both the Ingredients and the Overall Taste

I tend to gravitate to new items on the grocery shelves and cereal is no exception. Seeing the letters N, E and W on food items tends to make me want to take a closer look and see if it is something that I would like to try. I am always up for trying a new food, although I have to admit that I don't try food items, old or new, that contain meat because I am a vegetarian. I thought that a cereal that was good for digestive health sounded pretty good and the name mixed berry crunch sounded promising. The box of Live Active Mixed Berry Crunch Cereal from Post was about three dollars and I added it to my cart.

The box of Live Active Mixed Berry Crunch Cereal from Post contained about seven cups. Each serving was a cup so in theory the box would last me a week if I had a serving every day. Three dollars for a week of breakfast didn't sound like a bad deal so I was looking forward to trying that first bowl of mixed berry crunch cereal. I have to be honest in saying that I didn't think that the cereal was super great. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't what I would call an excellent cereal. It had some good crunch with its clusters and the flavor of the flakes were good too. However the cranberries in the cereal were very, very chewy and the blueberries were very small and hardly noticeable. I hoped that it had some good nutrition facts and ingredients.

The ingredients list was long and contained whole grain wheat, dried cranberries, sugar, inulin, which is a prebiotic fiber, dried blueberries, dried fruit pieces, whole grain rolled oats, soy flour, corn syrup, brown rice, modified cornstarch, modified tapioca starch, salt, wheat flour, malted barley flour, vegetable oil, whey, sodium, bicarbonate, cinnamon, nonfat milk, soy lecithin, milk, dried yogurt and artificial flavor. BHT was added to the packaging material to preserve the product freshness. I was disappointed with the ingredients of the Live Active Mixed Berry Crunch Cereal from Post. The cranberries contained sugar, glycerin, citric acid and sunflower oil, the blueberries had high fructose corn syrup, safflower oil, citric acid, potassium sorbate and natural flavor and the vegetable oil included partially hydrogenated palm oil. I hoped the nutrition facts looked better.

In a cup of Live Active Mixed Berry Crunch Cereal from Post there was one hundred and ninety calories with only fifteen calories from fat. There was only two hundred and fifty milligrams of sodium and one hundred and fifty milligrams of potassium in a serving of the cereal. A cup of the cereal also contained forty-three grams of carbohydrates, seven grams of fiber, twelve grams of sugars and four grams of protein. The minerals and vitamins section of the nutrition facts listed some really good numbers. There was eight percent listed for both copper and magnesium, ten percent listed for both zinc and vitamin D, fifteen percent listed for both vitamin A and phosphorus, twenty-five percent listed for vitamin B12, vitamin B6, niacin, riboflavin and thiamin, forty-five percent listed for iron and fifty percent listed for folic acid.

I don't plan on getting this cereal again. The ingredients were not what I prefer in a cereal and the overall taste wasn't good enough to convince me to get it again. I don't regret getting it though and thought that it was not that bad of a price. The box of Live Active Mixed Berry Crunch Cereal from Post lasted me about five days. I would recommend for anyone wanting to try it to read the ingredients to make sure that they are comfortable with them and to wait to stock up on the cereal until they know whether or not they like it.
