At this time, the group only exists on the social network, LinkedIn. It has already attracted an international membership. Leon Sterling urges members to post discussions at the group's site. He also encourages them to add CPWA to their resumes and other sites. Once you become a member, you can add this to your biography.
The question is: Are freelance writers being paid what they are worth? Mr. Sterling states that pay has actually dropped over the years. With the Internet opening making it easier to getting published, more people are entering this field. The laws of supply and demand seem to be at work here. Publishers have a larger and more accessible pool from which to choose.
Maybe it is time to band together. Resume writers have a national organization. Freelance writers can now speak to their industry with one voice. Under the banner of the CPWA , we can network with each other, share ideas and brainstorm new ways to open up markets for writers.

Post a CommentI was sorry to see that the website shown on the CPWA's LinkedIn account is no longer in use.
It seems that many of the groups for writers and editors have only one or two discussions going. Surely in this time of transition to digital, e-books and beyond, there is more than ever to discuss?
I am a member of the CPWA. It is a great group of writers who really "get it!" However, the author of the above article should have checked his grammar before posting. The first line, "He is fed up the diminishing returns freelance writers..." I think Mr. Sterling is fed up WITH the diminishing returns..." And, as he mentioned, Leon Sterling is not a tech writer. No guessing as to why this group exists and its members sorely needed.
How do you get a magazine to pay you. Magazine is located in FL and I live in NY
Malina ... I never send e-mails to anyone about joining our group. Hate spam, don't do it.
uh ... I am the owner of Certified Professional Writers Association on LinkedIn, but I am not not the author of technical books - that's another fellow with the same name in Australia.
Sounds worthy of review. I actually received an email from this writer encouraging me to join. I did not at the time pay too much attention, but thanks for bringing it up in an article. I intend to join. Even though I find myself classified as an excellent writer, I do intend to take additional classes. I need to improve. I cringe at the number of writers writing on the web who do not have any idea of what writing is about! Thanks
I bookmarked this article, and intend to check them out soon. Thanks for the info; I intend to start freelancing real soon, and they sound like a wealth of information and experience.
