CES 2010 officially kicked off Wednesday, January 6th, with Microsoft® CEO Steve Ballmer on stage where company chairman Bill Gates has stood in years past.
The biggest pre-show buzz for CES 2010 seems to be around 3-D technology. Of course, 3-D was part of the buzz last year but this year there will be even more product than promise including TVs, cooler eyewear and 3-D Blu-Ray®. With James Cameron's Avatar in 3-D breaking movie-going records, the interest in 3-D is at peak. Have you heard? There's a rumor that DirecTV will announce an all-3-D channel.
One of the most exciting predictions is that in the not so distant future we'll be transferring photos and video sans USB cables.
PC World® says that the Wi-Fi Alliance is planning to start certifying devices for the Wi-Fi Direct spec in the middle of 2010.
Expect to see more netboooks, smartbooks and tablets at CES 2010 too, as well as eBook readers, GPS upgrades, more digital cameras, and electronic games and toys.
CES 2010 is also expected to cover "GreenTech" in an area entitled "Sustainable Planet." Watch for the latest on everything green, including alternative energy, green building, smart grid, sustainable packaging, solar products, and eco-friendly business solutions.
What eco-friendly electronics can we expect to see at CES 2010? Many smart energy saving appliances and gadgets, as well as power-management devices, should be making a green tech debut.
Expect to hear more in 2010 about these five eco-friendly electronics:
1. The PICOwatt
The PICOwatt allows consumers to control appliances and devices from their phone or computer to save energy. Turn devices on and off or set them on a timer with PICOwatt. Will this green technology be user-friendly?
2. Electronic Housekeeper
Electronic Housekeeper has created a wall-mountable console that will interact wirelessly to monitor all utilities, including water. Will this energy dashboard be a hit? And how will it stack up against TED?
3. YoGen Kinetic Energy Charger
This battery charger allows the consumer to put in some kinetic energy to charge batteries. YoGen Kenetic Energy Charger may be as good as the grid option. We'll soon know if this kinetic charger is easy or fun to use.
4. NovoThink Solar iPhone Charger
How about a solar charger that can store more than a full battery charge? How long will it take to charge? We should know soon.
5. mPower Flashlight
Have you ever been caught with flashlights without batteries during a power failure? The mPower Emergency Illuminator® uses highly innovative battery technology to ensure a battery reserve of up to 20 years.
We'll be watching the CES 2010 to see which new electronics are the coolest on the scene and which ones are truly eco-green.
