Chace Crawford Pot Bust in Plano: Life Imitates Art

Valerie Ferrari
Actor Chace Crawford, who will turn 25 on July 18th, was arrested in Plano, Texas for possession of marijuana on June 4, according to MTV. Plano is a wealthy suburb of Dallas, and the 9th largest city in Texas. Crawford was raised in the area and his family lives there. His father is a dermatologist and his sister, Candice Crawford, works for KDAF TV as a sports reporter.

According to the public information officer for the Plano Police Department, the "Gossip Girl" star was released on bond after being arrested shortly after midnight for possessing under two ounces of marijuana.

TMZ got information that Chace Crawford was in a car with a friend when the bust went down. Why the pair was stopped and who was driving is not yet known, but police allegedly found a single marijuana joint. They also have his mug shot already, and say the charge is a misdemeanor that carries a 6-month penalty. For first offenders, there is probably a program that will keep him out of jail.

How is this going to affect the Joel Schumacher film "Twelve" which is due out shortly? Chace Crawford plays a bored rich young drug dealer on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The film is based upon the novel by Nick McDonell and co-stars rapper 50 Cent and Macaulay Culkin's brother, Rory. Director Joel Schumacher believes Chace Crawford is the perfect choice for the part of White Mike:

"Chace is very intelligent, comes from a really fine family," Schumacher said. "There's an old soul in him somewhere. He could play the grieving really well. There are a few scenes of anger. He was just right for the part, and the camera loves him. He does a lot with very little, and that's the essence of a good actor."

Based upon reviews of the film "Twelve" after its Sundance premier, it was not expected to be a big hit movie, but whether the marijuana arrest will add to its mystique or have a negative impact remains to be seen. It would be great for Joel Schumacher if "Twelve" became a hit and didn't end up being added to his list of duds.

Hadn't heard of the movie, but I love Indies, so despite the story, it's good news for me.
