Change? is it All in Our Head?

Can Changing the Way We Think Change Who We Are or Even the World?

Neely Goen

I know I seem to have just raised a lot of questions, but don't we all want to know the answers? I know that I do and I have spent many days and hours pondering them. I have to say when we look at the world around us we see negativity. Is that really all there is? Is our world today nothing but a political and social blood bath? I am here to say that the blood bath already took place over 2000 years ago with Christ. He took the whips, He took the walk, and He took the nails for each and every one of us. Why? That seems to be a question that most also ask. He took them to give us back the authority and dominion over the earth that He so graciously gave us. When the first Adam fell we lost all that and Christ came to give it back and set us FREE!

Looking at the world today we just see so much hate and anger. We see evil and ugliness. However if you begin looking with a heart that is full of love, mercy, and grace you will see a much different place. A place of wonder and creation. When the soil is dry and all you see is drought, I begin to see the leaves changing and I know that just around the corner winter will begin to settle in and my red birds will be back to nest and munch in my front lawn. We flip on the news and we see children killing children. WHY? Why can one person do such things? Maybe the person on the other end of the barrel has yet to be SEEN with mercy and grace. Maybe if they knew that someone loves them and has such an offer as eternal life they would feel differently. The bible says I will bless those that bless you and curse those that curse you. If you truly believe the infallible word of God then you must believe that. If we could only begin to bless the things around us, maybe the world would change. Maybe we actually have the power to change what seems to lie far beyond our grasps. Maybe we can change the drought or change the anger raging inside many young people. Maybe we can change the future.

There is a song by John Lennon "Imagine". Well can you imagine? I can. However I believe that my imagination can become reality. Do you? What if we all acted out of love? Just common things everyday, opening a door for someone at the gas station, smiling at a stranger on the street, actually giving that homeless man with the sign your last five bucks, don't you think that might change something? Have you ever noticed that when you are given a smile it seems to light your whole being? What if you could do that for someone? When your friend comes to you for the 5th week in a row complaining that they have no job and they are worthless, but this time when they walk off instead of saying what a worthless lazy person they are you instead thank God for the job that he has for them and that they are an incredibly talented individual. (Bless those that bless you and curse those that curse you) You have just blessed your friend and spoken of them with a tongue of pride and faith, rather than cursing them with a tongue of hate and disgust. You have said it enough it will become part of your everyday vocabulary and your mind will change and with that your heart. I think the biggest point of all here is that we can create and destroy with what we speak. If we speak love it will return. God's word says that it will not return void. Speak it daily and live it daily and I will guarantee that what you see, hear and feel about the world in which you live...will change. Why will it change? Because you have the power to do so with what you speak and how you react to what is around you.

You cannot gripe or complain about the world around you if you are not willing to get off the couch and try to change it. When bad things happen in your life do 20 good things for someone or something around you and slowly but surely your world will change. Our world will change. With any luck my children will get to reap the harvest of love, kindness, mercy and grace that you and I should be sowing into the soil of today. Actually it is the soil of this very moment, this very second your world is moving. So I dare you today to change it, not slow it or stop it, just carry it with a tongue of faith and a heart of love.

May God's rich blessings flow from you and return to you.

Great job, Neely. And the best part of it was that you not only write the words but live the life that you talk about. What you think about you bring about...and you are making a difference!
