Change: A Poem

Scott Bauer
Sitting on an unpopular shore

Skipping stones across an innocent wave

Lyrics come to me no more

For my mind has forces itself lame

What need I, methinks again

To unstop my emotions so strong

The worship of a pagan?

Or my need of a song?

Thoughts of dread

Constantly through my head

Leads me to think

My overworked life's on the brink

The life I follow

Makes Henry David turn,

For I have sucked no marrow

But for the woods I yet yearn

End, shall I, my opaque labor

And thrust myself in a massive change

This shall be a noble favor

And very deliberately, strange

Words will flow like spring streams

Gushing over their banks

Poems will come forth in reams

And I'll have only Henry David (and myself)

To thank
