Change Skin and Eye Color in Photoshop Elements

Paul Mann
Do you want your skin to be green and your eyes deep purple? With the wonders of Photoshop Elements, that can be done with just a few keystrokes. All you will need to do is use a new layer, the overlay function, and the paintbrush tool. Let's go step by step to make it even easier.

First off you want to open a photo of yourself. Just go to File>Open, and select a photo. When it load, you then want to create a new layer. To do this select Layer from the top, then select New>Layer.

Before doing anything else, go to the tool box at the right where all of the layers are shown. Above them you should see a drop down menu that is set to Normal (it's default setting). Click it and change it to the "Overlay" setting for this to work.

Now, just select the paint brush tool, select an appropriate color, and begin painting, it's that simple. You do need to have a steady hand though, because if you go from the colored portions of the eye into the white, it will look incredibly noticeable, but after a few tries and a little bit of time spent on the mouse you will get it. I won't lie though, before you can steady yourself it does get quite annoying.

Before ending though, let's talk about possible problems. What if your eyes are a really dark brown like mine, and you just can't seem to change them correctly? This can be easily enough solved.

To make your eyes lighter you will need the use of the Dodge tool. Right about the painting palette on my version (PSE 4, if you have another version just search for Dodge in your help screen and it will show you where to find it), it functions about the same as paintbrush, only it lightens existing colors. There is also the burn tool, which does the exact opposite and darkens existing colors, both are great for any type of photo work.

Go around your eye on the original layer. When you lighten it about once or twice it should be good. If not, just keep going over it until you can see the color you placed in the eye on the second layer.

Do the same with your skin, and viola, you are now an alien (or mutant, whichever you prefer).
