Change Your Thoughts and Change Your Life!
Ever Heard that Before? or This One, "Thoughts Are Things?"
The one thing that is always a constant in this world is change - in everything, on every level and plane of existence. No matter the goals, the job or the relationship. Everything goes thru changes no matter how minute they maybe.
I had always been a worrier. About everything until a chance meeting with a man in downtown L.A. many years ago. He had simply greeted me with, "How you doing?" And I had told him! He listened then asked was I finished? I said, yes. He then took me aside and said my problem was I had no active control of my thoughts. My thoughts were controlling ME. How many of us can identify with that?
My mouth fell open. I could say nothing. This concept was totally alien to me. What did my thoughts have to do with my problems? And could you control your thoughts?
He said he had a chant that would make it easier to control my thoughts.
A chant? What kind of chant?
He said he was a Buddhist and that the sect that he was with used this powerful chant that basically addressed not only the FOCUS of our thoughts but also addressed the very spiritual nature inherent in each of us. This would be a great way to both chant for healing, happiness, helping you solve your problems and to bring order and focus to your thoughts, he said. I thought, "Why not?" He then told me these words and also wrote them down for me; Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.
He repeated them a few times just so I would be familiar with the proper pronunciation. Then he said to never stop chanting no matter how smooth life was going. This addresses those questions we all have about how life is full of the good and the bad but how we react and respond to those things is what determines how much we can control those thoughts and attitudes. This was amazing! I thanked him and went home and tried it. It changed my life! I began chanting day and night as much as possible. I'd had a dispute with an agency in my home state about benefits I had been denied. On the third day checks began arriving in my mailbox adding up to the entire amount by the time it was all done! I became a Buddhist and whenever I found myself feeling bad or worrying or having issues I would remind myself that I hadn't chanted in a while and my negative feelings were slowly creeping back into my thoughts and taking over. I would begin to chant again and all would smooth out.
I have come to the conclusion that our EMOTIONS also play a big part in this. Since it was so hard for me to just 'think' positive and visualize I found that chanting was the best path to achieve these goals. It might work for you too.
Our thoughts are like 'magnets' that attract like thoughts that match our thoughts in frequency and vibration. If you worry constantly about losing your job that is what will be attracted to you and you actually do lose your job. The universe doesn't see any difference in what you FEAR from what you DESIRE. It's what you were FOCUSING on the most that the universe ACTED upon thru the IMMUTABLE LAW of ATTRACTION No separating from what is GOOD or BAD. That is not the Universe's job. It's YOURS.
"As a man thinketh in his heart so is he."
If your life is surrounded by the things that you DON"T want it was because you were in FEAR and/or WORRYING about the things you DIDN'T want. And you did it a lot, focusing on those things until the universe delivered. As ordered!
Now, you may have a chance to re-write your life script. You can change anything if you have the tools combined with your passion. By making a conscious effort every single day when you find yourself in fear or worry...begin to chant or play some music you love. Or play with your pet. Focus on what you TRULY desire and don't let anyone or anything take you off your desired course. And, as you well know, there is a LOT in this world that seems DESIGNED to stop positive loving thoughts of beauty, gratitude and thankfulness. How many are truly happy to just to be alive? And thank the Creator for just being? What family still says 'Grace' over their food before eating it? This can create that feeling of Gratitude and Thankfulness so in line with Universal Law. That is a very good start.
In this day and time we have a lot to worry about. That is a fact. But as SPIRITUAL BEINGS we ALL have the power to CREATE the world we DESIRE and LONG FOR. The media is DESIGNED to only deliver BAD news! That is also a fact! People are actually ADDICTED to listening to the news every day or evening. The movies and TV deliver a lot of violence and death confirmed by box office receipts and ratings, whether it's CONSCIOUS or not. And then there are the horror movies, very similar, with a following that attracts people of all ages to sit and partake of FEAR -an adrenaline rush that is like a drug of choice. And fear, some scientists have discovered, produces certain chemicals in the human brain that is, to all intents and purpose, a very real ADDICTION!
I only bring this up to point out that you can make CONSCIOUS choices regarding what you FEED your MIND, HEART and SOUL. Is it a steady DIET of Fear, Hate, Jealousy or Caring, Compassion, Love, Beauty, etc. etc.?
Just like anyone else I too have fallen victim to some of these popular movies, which is still just an ADDICTION. Think about it.
Fear. Worry. Can be just as compelling as sugar, anger, or smoking or anything taken in EXCESS or FOCUSED on the majority of time. Excess naturally leads into our FOCUSED thoughts keeping us company with a false sense of security and comfort. But, don't be fooled. Its only a façade BUT powerful enough to CONTROL you!
Change your FOCUS and change your MIND. Change your MIND and take control of your THOUGHTS. By steering your thoughts in the DIRECTION you DESIRE to go, you will realize it was a matter of TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for what you have in your life. No one created it but YOU! And don't continue to play the "Blame Game". Like an AA member who finally realizes until you ADMIT and RECOGNIZE you have a PROBLEM you can't CHANGE what you don't SEE. By making the CONSCIOUS effort- on a daily basis- to only have in your THOUGHTS what you DESIRE and not what you DON'T will bring all kinds of miracles into your world. A sort of "awakening" to your innate RESPONSIBILITY for what you allow into YOUR mind! Not anyone else's. Yours.
When I chant I do it for a couple of reasons;
1. To change my thought patterns, giving them a much-needed 'nudge' towards the positive, good and loving path I so desire. And
2. Because it is a spiritual chant it works on a deeper SPIRITUAL level as well.
Meditation, done on a regular basis, has its place in conforming your path to what you would rather have surrounding you. If you don't meditate and don't know how to go about it just do a search on any good search engine and type in 'Meditations'. You will find more then enough to get you started. I meditate for a world full of peace. It's actually quite fun! How different would the world be if there were only peace, love and abundance? Picture how different it would be going to shop or to theatres. How different the news would be in every broadcast medium. Only reporting GOOD news. And what would a Good News reporter talk about? Think about this and let your imagination fly!
I chant for a world of health and abundance. And that is not easy. For most of us we have to start with whom we see in the mirror every day. See your world full of peace and good will. Feel GRATITUDE and thankfulness for the smallest thing in your life that gives you pleasure at the thought. What brings a smile to your face? What brings a feeling of love to your heart? Whatever it is think about it more. When gratitude and thankfulness are FELT the UNIVERSE says, "Hmmmm, I guess I have to deliver MORE of that." And sets about delivering what you are FOCUSED on and grateful for the most.
Still, for those who can't manage this begin doing the chant. It is not necessary to attend a Buddhist church or group to do this chant. It is wonderful if you can but please, the most important thing to do is to start!
Start doing things -even little things- for yourself. Don't push yourself to work so hard, helping everyone but yourself with no time for you. Gratitude is not easy when you can't embrace it completely. Listen to your favorite music more often. Play the games you like more. Be good to YOU. The Universe will get the message...and give you more to enjoy and be GRATEFUL for. If you have heard of 'The Secret" this is based somewhat on the same principles. The time to take CONTROL of your thoughts starts whenever you are TIRED of creating what you DON'T want. When you have reached that point then you are probably READY to take RESPONSIBILITY for your Life, your part in the WORLD as a SPIRITUAL being who has forgotten how truly POWERFUL you are.
