How can we do that when the negative is so strong that positive thoughts are denied entrance to our minds? I have been in deep holes of depression where negative thoughts rain down like a flood. However, I have learned to fight back, and depression lifts off of me in welcome relief. Although I still have various troublesome categories in my life which serve as rain dances for this depression, this technique works for me.
I have a list of positive ideas about those troublesome categories written down where I can keep these outside of my head. This is a list of five, six, or more statements that I know are true--logically, morally, and potentially--but when I am under siege from negative thoughts, I cannot initiate or energize them from within. The negative thoughts are just too strong.
Here's an example. Negative thoughts sometimes take over my mind regarding finances. When there is more month than paycheck, when an error in the checkbook causes an overdraft, or when I buy something I later regret, my thoughts are negatively charged, accusing and becoming downright mean toward me. That's when I go outside myself to my list and begin to dwell upon the truths I have written, exchanging and drawing them in.
Positive thoughts on my finance list include: "I can figure it out," "I can organize and maintain my paperwork," and "I can manage my finances at this level of income." Just reading those positive truths helps me to access their power to bring me forward into a new reality. Truth is powerful, but the key is to develop the truths outside of ourselves, on paper, where they will never be lost in the negative war in our heads when the battle is raging.
These lists can be written on 3 x 5 cards where each card is a different subject, such as self esteem, relationships, or any other circumstance we face in life. I try to write at least five statements on each card, but write more if you are so inclined.
The crucial element in obtaining a personal magnetic pole shift from negative to positive is exchanging the negative thoughts with those written on your list. This is done by counting the list as true and the negative thoughts as the lies. Say the positive statements out loud. When I think "I can't balance my checkbook," I exchange that with the statement "I can figure it out." Above all, you must decide in your heart of hearts that you will refuse to believe lies any longer and that what you have written has the final say on the subject. If it is written on your card, you cannot believe anything else is true.
Having those positive thoughts written outside yourself is like having them written in stone where the rain of life's trials cannot wash them away.
Down with the negative and up with the positive! Flip your personal magnetic pole! You will be surprised at how you can come out from under fear, depression, discouragement, and negative self image and live a positive, more abundant life.
