Changes in Fox's House, Good or Bad?

Sarah A.
Over the years, Fox's television show House has made some changes in the focus of the show. Although they are subtle changes, they are definitely noticeable. Well, at least I noticed them. Perhaps it's because I'm a stickler for stuff like that or perhaps it's because I genuinely love the show. Nevertheless, there have been changes. So the question is now, are the changes good or bad?

I've been watching House since the show's first season. I love all things medical, hence my love for the show. In the beginning, the show focused more on the actual medical mystery at hand and less on the storyline between characters. I liked that. I enjoy that aspect of the show, trying to figure out the unknown. Of course, it's virtually impossible to come up with the correct diagnosis. I honestly, don't think the most brilliant doctor in the world could come up with the diagnosis while watching the show. There are way to many "curveballs" and unknowns. Of course, it all makes sense once the true diagnosis is revealed. Suddenly, everything fits into place. That's what makes House so enjoyable.

Another thing great about House is the fact that it is actually pretty medically accurate. I'm referring to the medical terminology, diagnostic tests, etc. Those are accurate. On the other hand, the storylines themselves are pretty far out there. They are pretty much unrealistic, to say the least. That's okay, though. I don't think there is a single medical drama on that doesn't have unrealistic storylines. Once again, that's what makes House so enjoyable.

Recently, the show has had a major shift in the focus of the show. Instead of focusing on the medical mystery at hand, the show now focuses more on the storyline between characters. I'm saying that's bad, it's just not what House started out as. I do enjoy seeing all the funny happenings between characters, don't get me wrong. Most recently, it's been fun trying to figure out who Dr. House will pick to be on his team. However, it just seems that, at times, the focus is put too much on the storyline between characters and not enough on the medical mystery at hand. For example, during a recent conversation with some friends about the show, all everyone could talk about was the characters. Not a single one of them remembered the diagnosis. In fact, they couldn't remember much about the patient at all. Now that's interesting.

I'm not going to stop watching House anytime soon. I still enjoy the show. However, it would be nice to see a little more emphasis put on the medical portion of the show. After all, that is what set House apart from other shows in the beginning. Why change it now?
