looking out at the gray skies
and the rain coming down
and thought about things
and stuff and thought about 'him'
I do not know why?
I do not know how he came to my mind
I had not seen him since I was a teen
and trust me - it has been a couple of years
since then...
OK! so I lied...
About how long it had been
since I saw this old flame of mine
who, at the time, was only 13 or so years of age.
Anyway--he came to my mind
while I was looking at the rain
through my darkened room
while the rain fell and made me feel blue
I went to Facebook - what the heck I thought...
Everyone who is anyone can be found
on this site..
I typed his name on the little empty space- in the little empty box...
and then quickly walked away.
When I returned--a while and a half or so ago
I found I had a reply..
My heart beat raced...
from excitement and the thought
that maybe I could once again
meet my old boyfriend.
I do not drink so I poured myself a cup of hot coffee
and a little piece of cake..
I needed something to steady my nerves
as I prepared to read my Facebook reply.
The note came from someone who knows him.
at least he knows the name..
He said that this person used to live
in the place I mentioned- a long long time ago.
He also told me that the name belonged to
his Grandfather.
Wow! that hit home. My mind was thinking back
to the fun we had in our younger years
and the fact thaat he was my special boyfriend
and now....
He is so Very Old!
I deleted my request
I deleted his response
And I sat at the window watching the rain
and--suddenly I also felt so Very Old!
The Moral of This Tale is :
it is best to look ahead at the future and the years we have left.
than to look back at the past and think about how very long ago that was!

Post a CommentI think a lot of people get curious about old loves. Neat poem!! :)
Yes, we should keep moving ahead...but sometimes it is fun to reconnect and catch up with friends from bygone days.
I have gone through something like this.
I've been have the same experiences lately, people I haven't seen for decades popping into my mind. Some things are best left alone.
You are a very wise lady!
Well written. I have been thinking to contact old friends from time to time, and a couple of months ago I did manage to contact a friend from my university days with a surprising result on my wedding day (see A Really Nice Surprise).
This one hits home!
Wow, great work on this.
Sage advice, indeed. Cheers :)
Ah, wise advice. Still, memories are part of our life. I cherish the past, but look forward to the future.
