Changing or Adjusting Our Personal and Business Culture for Success
Culture and Our Success This New Year
What we may have said and done last year could have been the reason for any disadvantage we suffered. Our relationships with our family and friends, for example, may not have lived-up to expectations. The respect, trust and cooperation, for instance, may have been absent and that (among other things) would have caused our failure or lack of desired results. It is a friendly advice, therefore, to reconsider or evaluate some of the aspects of our relationships for the better this year. Some are:
Honesty: In any relationship (personal or business) integrity or just plain honesty is a must for success. If we adhere to a personal culture and behavior that enslave us into being persistently dishonesty, we will most likely not achieve true friendship and a healthy relationship. To communicate honesty on a daily basis to our families, friends, business colleagues, neighbors and others will most definitely bring better results. Some may agree with the remark that someone "cannot handle the truth," but they will if you present the truth in the most appropriate manner base on the prevailing situation. This has been the case for years for many successful people who see the opposite as spreading and promoting a bad way of life.
Respect: We were taught from a very young age to respect our elders, but this applies to everyone we come into contact with in our lives. Some will boldly tell us that those of a criminal background and with a history of disrespect to others, do not deserve respect. This may be true. But the main issue here is to highlight the importance of respect in general towards others. The child must respect his/her parents, the student must respect the teacher, the employee must respect the employer and vice versa, the husband must respect the wife and the opposite applies. The list goes on and on, as we can think of many situational examples in life. Listening to people opinions and showing understanding for their emotions, for example, will be needed this year if we are aim at a better and successful New Year.
Compromise: In our very personal lives (marriage and otherwise) in particular, negotiations on a mutual level will be needed for better relations. If we have been mentally and socially cultivated to display a commanding and confrontational culture, this may be hindering us already. The willingness to accept another person point of view in a peaceful manner is a very humane attitude to cultivate for success. Aggression should be left to the battle field of military war, and not be allowed to ruin our personal lives, especially. Other aspects of our relationships to be reviewed for better success this year include accountability, shared responsibility, commitment and loyalty, faithfulness, among others...
But the business aspect of our lives is inter-related to the personal side so we must not ignore this. Hence, a how a business owner (individual, partnership or company) defines, explains and implement what are essential for success should be evaluated for better results this year. How decisions are made (in an authoritative manner or by group cooperation, for example) proper delegation, the willingness to accept opinions, advice and input from others in a sincere and respectful manner, the kind of staff that are encouraged to be apart of the business (and here the ethical principles, professional qualifications, race, sex, and other factors) will be relevant.
The business model and the mentality of just making money at the expense of others should be discouraged. People are humans and they expect to be treated differently (to some real extent) from animals. Business culture that will encourage good sustainable relationships with staff and customers are always preferred than that which alienate anyone and create high negative business turnovers. So to make a real effort to cultivate a business culture that is acceptable to the owner, staff and clients make good sense for success.
Therefore, what our culture is will have an important effect on our personal and business success, especially, as we continue to embrace the New Year. To cultivate a culture of honesty, respect and compromise is good to go for successful business and healthy personal relationships.
