You will want to go to the store and pick out the hardware that you think will look the best with your cupboards and appliances. You will also want to pick hardware which is easy to grab and hold on to. You don't want to pick out gold hardware when everything in your home is silver and vice versa. Recently my mother purchased new hardware for her kitchen cabinets and gave me her old, yet new, hardware. The new hardware looks great and it made the kitchen feel a little bit more updated.
Once you have your hardware picked out you will need to find a few screw drivers. Most of the screws will be phillips screw drivers which come to a cross at the end, just in case you don't know. You will then want to unscrew from the backside of the cupboard. Make sure to hold on to the hardware or it will fall off and perhaps get ruined. You can then set all the old hardware aside and perhaps sell it or give it away to somebody else. You will then place the new hardware on the cupboard and use the new screws to attach the hardware. You can also use the old screws if you would like to.
As you can see, this whole process does not take more than one hour. For the cupboards which are hard to get at with a screw driver you can reach inside to see if the cupboard door comes off. The cupboard will either pop off with clips or you can slide the plastic upright to remove the cupboard door. These are usually the cupboards which you cannot open but they are only there for decoration such as the doors right under the sink.
You can update your kitchen without spending more than twenty dollars and an hour of your time. Everybody likes something new and it will look really great. Have fun and remember to pick out hardware that you like and also hardware that will be easy to grab and hold on to.
