After we have tuned into what our subconscious is telling us, we can start to work with the statements or beliefs that underlie the statements that are flashing through our subconscious mind which cause us to not act, or too act inappropriately. The first thing we can do is simply try to act in spite of the belief. If you want to approach someone, but are stopped by a sudden thought such as "she/he won't want to talk to me, I have nothing to offer them" you could simply approach this person in spite of that internal comment that is running through your mind. This can be difficult, but it is the quickest way to start building new experiences on which to base your subconscious beliefs. By acting regardless of the thought you will begin to mold a new belief structure on the fact that you can approach people and it is not a bad thing.
A slower but very effective way to change our subconscious beliefs is through an exercise I call "Altering Secondary Thoughts." In this exercise imagine the negative statement in word form in the back of your mind (the statement you discovered in Part 1). Now take that picture, the statement, and see it starting to dissolve or melt away into nothingness. In its place put the positive belief or statement which you want to integrate into your default responses and thinking. Make this positive statement have bold letters and imagine that statement moving from the back of your mind to the front and then to the back again. As you are doing this think about how the positive statement is sinking both into your conscious and subconscious mind.
You will likely need to do the exercise several times before you start to see any changes, but slowly as you continue to instill your new positive belief you will see yourself responding to this new belief. You will feel more empowered to do the things you want to do and act (or not act) more appropriately to the situations which involve the internal dialogue you have been working on. If negative thoughts are preventing us from enjoying our journey, or preventing our true journey, it will be impossible to reach peace and true happiness.
In Part 3 we will look an exercise to build general positivity and create an overall more enriching life. This is directly related to our ability to succeed and being happy in our journey. The exercise upcoming in part 3 can be used in addition to the exercise discussed in this article.
