Changing the Voting Process for American Idol

Bob McCoog
So Simon leaves at the end of this season. Although there is great musical talent out there in the world, this may not be enough to draw in the same crowd. The producers of American Idol have brought on Ellen to help with ratings and are bringing on Adam Lambert to get people to watch the show. But would this be enough to bring back to viewers that have already left? I propose bringing about a change.

Right now there are four judges and a save option for a favorite. What if they got rid of this option and brought in a new look to the process? By change, I propose the following: get rid of the judges and the audience voting, to a point. After the performers have finished singing for the night, let the audience vote on their least favorite artists. The four least favorite artists would meet on results night for 'American Idol Fear Factor'. Joe Rogan would host with Ryan Seacrest for the night. The artists would have to perform such tasks as crawling through piano wire, singing something by Shania Twain while swimming through a pool of worms, and having to eat whatever the newest sushi plate that's the favorite in Hollywood, drink a shot of wasabi sauce, and then sing something by the Bee Gees.

At the end of the night, the artist who completes all of the tasks successfully gets to come back next week to perform again. This would not only be a true test of their musical talent, but of their strength and sheer determination to be able to survive anything-- bad reviews, getting cheated out of money by their producer, or even their upcoming coke addiction.

Not only would this put a different spin on American Idol, but it would also give Joe Rogan a job again and bring in all of white trash America who thought that Fear Factor was high quality programming.

But, if you'd rather have Adam Lambert sing every night, then that's your choice Fox network.

They need to change the way they do the voting. It should be one damn phone call, or up to 3 (like they did for Biggest Loser to vote in who was in the Top 3). The young voters will vote for 2 hours (or 4, as was the case for the final vote night). Otherwise, the results are skewed and only reflect those in their teens and 20's. 30, 40, and 50 year olds aren't going to vote for 2 or 4 damn hours! :/

If they just showed Adam staring at the camera for an hour, I would still watch.

Agree 100% with Jada. There were obviously mistakes made last season. I know many of my own texted votes were not counted for Adam, and I heard the same from others. My theory is that the voting channels for Adam were jammed and went down. To add to that, the eventual winner's (Kris Allen) fans were given (free of charge) AT&T phones with which to text in votes. I had to buy my AT&T phone. Furthermore, I suspect there were behind-the-scenes manipulations of the votes because, c'mon, Kris Allen is much more mainstream and more like the winners that American Idol is known for -- clean cut, maybe a little country-ish, and apple pie. While Adam Lambert has proven himself to be a big draw and an excellent singer, let's face it, he is a little different than what American Idol usually produces as winners... not at all Disneyland. We all love Kris and wish him well -- it isn't his fault -- just the powers that be behind AI. They will learn their lesson the hard way, I'm afraid.

    WHAT JADA SAID !

    Your conclusion was right:
"But, if you'd rather have Adam Lambert sing every night, then that's your choice Fox network."
The show lost its credibility and millions of viewers because ADAM did not win last season. FOX did not understand the magnitude of their mistake and the long consequences. At least they were supposed to "act" like they tried to find a solution for that abnormal result but they didn't care about Adam and/or the viewers. Now, we don't care.
Yes, the voting system MUST be changed/improved: to give more decisional power to the judges (to avoid promoting mediocrity in the future) and to limit the number of votes from one place.

I hope that FOX realizes now that ONLY ADAM CAN HELP THEM AND THE (ADDICTED TO ADAM) AUDIENCE.

I like to watch the bad singer but this year the final 12 were just as bad. No special talent this year and I think they found the best and that was Adam Lambert. Adam gave the show the biggest boost in years.

after ADAM LAMBERT did not win I stopped watching the show. AI should have corrected the voting problem. I do belive Arksaw and ATT had someting to do with it. Regardless Adam did win in the long run due to his talent. Adam was in another league all together. Adam would be great on his own show like a Sonny and Cher Show.

I love to watch the auditions! After the horrible singers are gone, so am I. Who cares who wins? It's probably all rigged anyway. "FAN favorites" aren't always the most talented!!

    Look at Crystal!! @@

Why hasn't Crystal been gone? Who wants to look at her nasty yellow teeth, her tatoos, her chin ring, her nasty hair, and her dressing like a country FRUMPKIN? Why hasn't she done something with her nasty self? Who wants to look at that?

Good Bye Simon & Good Bye Kaylor!

I already do watch Adam sing every night on youtube because I can't get enough of that man.
