How did God create the world? What does it mean to be the Alpha and Omega? Why should I read Genesis? What are the origins of the universe? These are just a few questions raised from this chapter. I will attempt to answer these questions only. There are a lot of questions from here, but I must have a focal point for this chapter. I really want the purpose of Genesis to shine through.
The purpose of chapter one in Genesis is very simple. Chapter one is meant, simply, to show that God created the universe and everything in the universe and anything that was made was made by God. So God created all of the tiny calculated aspects and everything else. God created everything... It demonstrates that everything in the universe was created with a fine point. Genesis as a whole spells out an easy message, but chapter one is the introduction to that message.
Thinking of messages, consider that your life is a message. All life is a message. Creation is a message. Everything is a message. I would say this because the word universe means one word. The significance and power behind such a thought is incredible. A lot of things gain meaning from this one truth. Your life is a message of God's glory. This shows a fingerprint of Christ. According to John 1:1-5, it says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." Later, in John 1:14-18, it states, "And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him, and cried out, saying, 'This was He of whom I said, He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.' For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him." There is more inside the entire book of John and the four gospels. I only wished to highlight that it points out the Word as God and creator, and it says that the Word came down in the flesh. There is so much more to learn from reading at least John chapter one in whole before reading Genesis chapter one. This message would mean that the same God who created everything had created us and came down in the flesh to die for us. Before I get too in-depth, let me just continue on with the introduction, for there is much more to discuss, and when I go over the other verses in chapter one of Genesis the main idea should be exhumed from the pages. Our life and salvation is a message that says God made us for a relationship with Him and He took great pleasure in making us in His image out of love, craftsmanship, and goodness. Can you look at another person or yourself with out thinking, "How did I come to be?" If you say no, then why has man continually pursued answers about how the universe was created since the beginning of time? Genesis gives us those origins we seek. In short, everything is a message.
Genesis is a message about the beginning. So much can be learned by exploring this book line by line. Many questions may arise. However, the simple purpose of the chapter is going to be examined as you turn the pages. As we walk through this chapter, dwell on each stop. This is just the beginning of our exploration. There are many things to see and understand as you can tell. I promise to try to make this journey interesting, but the best thing is to pray to God and match my answers and words with the Bible. This will make the journey proper and done just right. I will also pray that those who read this entire book when it is fully completed will be blessed and well versed on Genesis chapter one. The next chapter shall ask again a multitude questions earlier mentioned. In that chapter, I shall answer the questions in detail. For now, this is the first chapter. Hopefully, you will enjoy this study.

Post a CommentThanks for writing the article. Don't let Jake's comment get to you -- he has a handful of comments that he leaves almost verbatim on several Christian articles. Not much thought goes into them since he uses the same comments multiple times, so I certainly wouldn't pay much attention to them. :)
The book of Genesis accredits the coming-into-being of everything to an infinite being. It isn't a particularly entertaining read, either; in fact, it's eminently boring. I've studied it various times, as with the rest of the bible, but here's something for you; a person could gain the same enlightenment you're praising from an ingredients list on a box of cereal if they were just "in the right frame of mind". Conclusion: your article, as with the thematic, is irrational and defective.
