Characters Always Wanted

Television's Finest

Melissa R. Mendelson
We drift through the velvet darkness. Drama are the ripples flowing against the rhythm of heart. Nightmares beg to surface; our horror realized. Sweet kisses of passion lap the sandy shore, touching those footprints that will never fade. Time is but a dream, and we dream of infinite worlds, journeys that chase the footsteps of our ordinary lives. Reflections of character melt into soft moonlight; the mirror of soul. Trials whisper against waves now rocky with tragedy, conflict, and we are pulled down, engulfed, ignited. And we breathe in their strength, their sacrifice, and when the sea fades to black, when the moonlight abandons us to eternal darkness, the flickers of their journey, their lives keep burning; characters never to be forgotten and characters always wanted.

1. The Bald and The Bad

Can I play with madness? What would this world be without a touch of evil? Who would our heroes become without a formidable foe? Never will we forget those that have brought us to our knees, those that tore the world down; the mad men like Lex Luthor and Sylar. Stranded on a deserted island, we find ourselves snared in the mind games of the one with the penetrating stare. Walking these streets, we can't escape the predators that track our every move. This world has gone to hell, and we dance to the eclipse of extinction. The countdown has begun. Our nightmares are alive and well, vivid across the silver screen, and we beg for our heroes to fight, to sacrifice. But what would this world be without the grace of evil, without the villains to forever haunt the legacies that we become?

2. All the Beautiful People

All the beautiful people. Where do they come from, and will they reign supreme? They're beautiful, dirty, and rich; wild aces bringing the house down. Hear Lady Gaga roar. Listen to Eminem rant. Their music is alive and vibrant. Drama rips against the Jersey Shore. Let's hear it for the real housewives. Think you can dance? The last comic is laughing. Reality bites, sinking its fangs in and drawing blood. Hot flashes of fame sear the screen, and we are blinded with the radiance of talent; men of iron and women defined. Late nights have become a celebrity death match, and The Soup is on. Can you hear me, Chelsea? It's time to shine.

3. Bourne To Be Bad

They might be giants, but who would win the rumble? Jason Bourne, Jack Bauer, or Michael Westen? 'Tis the season of the spy. Rogue operatives are deep into the covert affairs. Hunted and burned, their lives twist and turn, and they struggle to survive. Bullets fly, and explosions ignite. They're running out of time. Crisis chases the heels of legends, and darkness is rising fast. Shotguns are at the ready, but are they ready to sacrifice? Will the bonds of friendship, family break beneath the fate of this world? Will Dean say good-bye to Sam one last time? Where are the angels, Castiel when you need a leap of faith, but hell hath no fury like a burned spy.

4. Once Bitten, Forever Alive

I'm burning for you. Your eternal kiss. Your brooding lines. The heart that now lies in darkness. The candlelight of soul flickering in the twilight. I will be your forever. My blood always true, so bite deep and savor our love. I will never say good-bye. Sunlight is the prism of life, the stake to your heart, but I travel now by moonlight, resting beside the mystic falls, waiting for you. And you come to me, my dark stranger to take me away into journeys beyond the ordinary, and I dare not turn back. I dare not wake without you, but will you remain with me? Will you be my forever?

5. Happy Helloween

I'm not afraid. The Supernatural stirs with anticipation. The heavens melt into Destiny, spiraling deep beyond the Stargate. Sanctuary awaits. The Event is approaching. Suspense slips across the Fringe. Halloween is coming. Nightmares burn across Elm Street. Trick or Treat. Scream. Warning! Paranormal Activity ahead, but stay close to the Ghost Hunters. And pray your soul to keep. The pumpkins are grinning. The wiccans are chanting. Black cats are dancing to that old black magic. The spirits are rising, drifting closer with each breath and painting our windows white. Midnight. Time to play, and the waves of television fall away into quiet. But the characters never to be forgotten, characters always wanted remain, waiting for our return into the stories that they leave behind.
