Charitable Gift Ideas for Valentine's Day

Megan Butler
Whether you have an eco-friendly Valentine that you want to impress, or Mother Earth is your only Valentine, Valentine's Day is a great day to share your love of the world. Candy gives you Type-2 diabetes and cut flowers are notorious pollutants. Here's how to wrap up a different display of your affection. In celebration of Valentine's Day here are four fun charities that are sure to impress your Valentine (plus they make great last-minute gifts).

  • When you want to be unbearably cute, there's the Critter Connection. This adorable charity rescues abandoned guinea pigs. You can donate to the organization in your Valentine's name or adopt one of the adorable little buggers as a gift. They're cute and cuddly and they only live four to eight years.
  • If your valentine has a sense of humor, make a donation to the naked clowns. This non-profit fund-raising troupe does their nudey act to raise money for multiple sclerosis. Giving money can be as easy as picking up their annual Naked Clown calender. Spoiler alert: they're naked in the calendar but they strategically hide their naughty bits behind various clown props. But, it is for charity...
  • When you've been a bit of an ass, why not make up for it this year with a donation to LongHopes Donkey Shelter? These guys give homes to sad, unwanted donkeys who would probably otherwise suffer some unspeakable fate. You can adopt one for as low as $150. If you don't want to burden your Valentine with a beast of...burden, you can just make a donation. It will help them keep the donkeys fed and housed until they find someone who really wants a donkey around.
  • If it will take more than a cheeky gift to repair what you've done, better throw in the candy and maybe a donation to The Order of the Azure Rose. The Order is a nonprofit organization that dedicates itself to bringing chivalry back to the modern world. Tell her that your donation will help them to provide demonstration and educational materials to help the next generation of boys to grow up more chivalrous than you.
